Cefn Hengoed, 1982. I once asked Dad where the horse came from and apparently that's "just the kind of thing that showed up in Cefn Hengoed in 1982."

The best photo of me ever taken, as a toddler in some kind of red hoodie/cardigan combo, with my Mam holding me on the saddle of a small horse on a very 1980s valleys street. I look perhaps the happiest I've ever been in my life.

Re: Ian Watkins - I met people in that weird Welsh emo poser scene in the 2000s & there was definitely a sort of self-destructive nihilistic edge to it that found ironic humour, & even pride in being vain, selfish, & generally horrible. I always thunk about that when I hear the "megalolz" story.

At a video game show last year, I demoed my 1990s-office-themed video game After Work with floppy disk handouts instead of cards. They all said “Disk 2 of 6” on them and 100% of the Gen Xs that took one groaned and made a pained face as it triggered something deep inside.

A floppy disk with a sticker proclaiming it to be disk two of six for the office productivity suite “After Work”, in a 1990s software font like it’s Photoshop 3.0 or Word 6.

It occurs to me that the Doctor's polyethnic identity in recent times recontextualises Peter Davison's casting in quite an interesting way.
(For context, although you'd be unlikely to guess it by looking at him, Davison's paternal family is Guyanese. He has close relatives who are visibly Black.)
