People sometimes think Bank Street needs bus lanes only during "peak" hours. The data shows otherwise : the largest delays are during the hours outside of "peak", when buses weave in and out of parking lanes.

Our city deserves reliable service all day, for all kinds of trips, with 24/7 bus lanes.
Image showing the travel times for bus routes 6 and 7 in the corridor of Bank Street going northbound and southbound between Aylmer and Chamberlain. The data shows significant large delays outside of the "peak hours" that the city has deemed where bus lanes are needed.

Keep this in mind when people claim cars mean business — closing Central #Madrid to cars over holidays resulted in a 9.5% boost in retail spending on its main shopping street: STUDY.

There was also a 71% drop in air pollution.

Solving the housing crisis won't happen by continuing the same development patterns we've followed for the last 70 years. That's how we got into this mess in the first place 🤦‍♂️

It is frustrating to see people use the housing crisis to justify any sort of housing. Tewin is NOT the way we should be building housing. It will only deepen city debt and fuel our decades-long sprawl addiction. Expensive roads and sewers are not something we can afford.

Councillor moves to reverse city's approval for Tewin development | CBC News
Coun. Theresa Kavanagh says the sprawling housing project didn't go through proper consultation and will cost the city a fortune in infrastructure.

Across Ottawa, from fairs and markets to townhalls and meetings, I’ve been hearing the same thing: people are frustrated and want a new direction for our city. We need a city that works, with reliable transit, strong services, repaired roads and community centres.

And would someone be able to explain to us why we need to do "studies" to determine if sidewalks are good or not?

This is the kind of red-tape that needs to absolutely be removed from any sort of decision making. It stands in the way of creating the safe and inviting cities that we all want.
strongtownsottawa.ca
This was such a terrible decision to make.

We agreed to safer streets, investing into alternative modes of transportation, and more in our official plan and the transportation master plan.

What's the point of any of that if a loud minority can undo all of it?

To anyone who came out to the open house yesterday about bus lanes on bank... Wow, what an amazing amount of support. Unanimously every speaker, besides the BIA, said they want the city to be BOLDER!

We've written a summary of the event here : strongtownsottawa.ca/2025/09/25/t...
The City Needs to be Bold with Bank

Thanks to everyone who came by to chat and help with the Park(ing) day event!

Unfortunately we only got to be in the street for a couple hours until we moved over to Kunstadt's parking lot (huge shoutout to them for letting us use it).

Our streets can be so much more with just a bit of change!

How is there not enough space to create cycling facilities at this huge intersection haha... It's the last place I'd think to say that we don't have enough space...
markomiljusevic.bsky.social
Yea for sure, that area is definitely a bit narrower, but from their site : There is not enough space in the road right of way to provide comfortable cycling facilities through the intersection of Gladstone Avenue and Bronson Avenue, so this project proposes an on-road routing through local streets.
markomiljusevic.bsky.social
Please correct me if I'm wrong here, but taking a look at GeoOttawa this area around the intersection has about 20 meters of city ROW. That would easily allow for 3.5 meter lane in each direction, and tons of space for sidewalks and cycle tracks.
markomiljusevic.bsky.social
Maybe I'm missing something but the Gladstone I'm familiar with isn't very narrow. Are you referring to the eastern section? If so, take out on-street parking and you have TONS of space... It could easily fit the lane for buses as well as a raised cycle-track.

The Gladstone/Percy cycling study originally proposed contra-flow bike lanes on Percy and bike lanes on Gladstone.

Now, instead of a simple left turn onto Gladstone, the proposal would have a north-westbound biker go from Percy to Flora, Bay, Gilmore, Bronson, Christie, Arthur, THEN Gladstone.
markomiljusevic.bsky.social
Until our streets are made actually safe for pedestrians it's unfortunately the best we can get. We're a LONG ways away from having streets that are safe and comfortable for intermingling of cars and others
