Remember, respectability politics is a way to keep people in their place. This is incredibly petty, and again, when the worry about Catherine Connolly was that she would not be able to conduct herself at official events properly...
The Taoiseach is not coming to Dublin Castle for the official declaration of Catherine Connolly's victory in the presidential election.

Whether intended or not, it's going to look very confrontational for the head of government NOT to be there to congratulate the new head of state
He was banging the same drum on @virginmediaireland.bsky.social Ireland AM this morning. He clearly has no concept or understanding of those who are unable to speak freely, due to duress from employers or family or community. Not exactly inclusive thinking...

"Trying to read votes covered in overt racism and ones that wrote-in Elvis Presley as making the same political point is simply not a credible narrative. And it shouldn't be given any credibility just because the people who want to make it do so standing on top of their very large handbags."
"Fianna Fáil maybe decide to run an MEP instead of a MIA. Or a fleet of no-hopers got nominated and we spent the whole campaign having to listen to the media asking candidates their opinions on the Latin mass and if cocaine bloat is a positive feature in a President."

The number of spoiled votes suggests that we have a huge misinformation-led mental health crisis in this country. A lot of these people are clearly very unwell and the far right have swooped in to take advantage. They’re going to spiral further until the government takes the issue seriously

Two votes for Trump, one for Bertie Ahern and one for Gavin Sheridan (remember him??)

Box 3 for me was a shit show of spoils. About a quarter of the box, more than the second place candidate. Not what you want to see at all.

Spoiled votes are simply not valid for the election count so the actual news here is that the left wing candidate was able to get around 84% of the valid first preference votes out of this ballot box. Huge in a PR-STV system for Catherine Connolly.

106 spoiled votes out of a tally of 300 votes in Dublin South Central…

There were some interesting valid comments on the dangers of advertising, negatively influencing diet and nutrition.
Then in the ad break, we had Avonmore pushing their Vitamin D milk, because we can't be arsed getting out in daylight.
Slight hypocrisy....

Hi Donna, did they ever come back to you with an update on why the separators were removed from Bridge St please? It's fairly dangerous coming down the hill there.
