My dad got hit by a car last year (he's fine, gardaí couldn't do anything, no footage) and he cycles with lights, high vis, reflectors, bright colours. You'd see him a mile off. It didn't matter against a dickhead in two tonnes of metal.
I'm all for road safety but you could have every cyclist in the land wearing a full suit of Christmas lights and drivers fucking around on their phones will still knock them down

Another example of the extraordinary example of the generosity of spirit shown by Irish courts to motorists who commit homicide

Woman given suspended sentence over cyclist's death
A woman whose husband was killed whilst out for a Sunday cycle on the Malahide Road in Dublin last year, has said no words can ever change how brutal it has been since she lost him.

AI slop is bad, don't get me wrong. But the Internet was in rapid decline in late 2022 anyway, this going from the fire to the frying pan
Slop Evader is a tool from artist and researcher Tega Brain that lets you search the web for results exclusively before November 30, 2022—the day that ChatGPT was released to the public.
'Slop Evader' Lets You Surf the Web Like It’s 2022
Artist Tega Brain is fighting the internet’s enshittification by turning back the clock to before ChatGPT existed.

It's not asylum.seekers they can't deal with. It's their own failure.
Applications for Asylum are down some 40% on last year too. That the government cant deal with a misery 3000 applications shows how useless they are.

The landlord parties (FG, FF and Independent Ireland) have just voted to leave renters in the cold.

They have blocked our Bill to introduce minimum BER standards in the rental sector to stop renters being left in cold, damp and mouldy homes.

"Ireland would think differently about Russia if they were where Estonia is!". Yeah probably. Different things are different. I don't think Poland worries much about the good Friday agreement to be honest.

Genuinely, how are "luxury" brands getting away with this. It looks like shit. It looks like a scam. You are paying 6 figures for this? For this? Fuck range Rover anyway, but at least be evil competently! Fuck!

For people unaware and playing/streaming Where Winds Meet, it uses GenAI for NPC chat bots, and let's you import a photo of yourself and a voice clip for character creation, which I'm sure I don't need to explain why that is fucked up

And no AI disclosure on Steam 🙃

the genAI bubble relies on you conflating the genuinely tremendous potential of using machine learning for e.g. image recognition in radiotherapy, protein folding, simulations in power systems etc with the child abuse image generators and schizophrenic delusions generators

There's no funding to reopen the Waterford-Wexford/Rosslare. The All-Island Rail Review recommended reopening this. It's only been closed since 2010 and is being maintained. Would have been huge for regional development.

It has to be named after Maureen Sweeney, the Irish meteorologist who gave the Allies a critical weather report before D Day.

Irish aviation history and meteorological history are intimately linked, and we're a Republic - we don't name things after Taoisigh here (except in Cork).

Can't have a children's hospital. Can't have a decent public transport system. Can't have public housing. Can't have public services full stop. If they spent money on a fucking boat before any of that stuff the govt wouldn't be worrying about the Russians.
But critics argue that Ireland, awash with cash from a corporation tax bonanza paid by global firms with big operations in the country, is using its neutral status to duck its 21st-century responsibilities.
