Staying grounded, having realistic expectations and conversations, understanding your own motivations, I think this is more likely to help folks keep going. At least that's what helps me.

We romanticize hustle culture and the plucky underdog who, against all odds, rises above their circumstances to success and money and acclaim and then wonder why people end up feeling like burnt out, frustrated failures.

Look at billionaires, they have so much time on their hands and are so bored all they can think to do with all their time is science experiments on themselves to chase immortality and world domination.

Yes, I'm being facetious.

The phrase we "all have the same amount of hours in the day" is absolutely not true when it comes to free time. Money may not buy happiness but it for sure buys more time.

You can have two people with the exact same level of dedication and good work ethic, but one has to work a full time job and take care of their family and the other doesn't. The time that people are allowed controls so much.

You can work hard and get lucky or work hard and not get lucky. Hard work doesn't always lead to success. Luck and circumstance doesn't always lead to success.
millibeau.bsky.social
I wish folks could have conversations about luck and circumstances vs hard work and dedication without conflating the two topics bc while related, they are two different conversations with different talking points.

“Daddy…we just want to live like before”
Small words from my kids, yet they fall on my heart like a mountain.

I'm trying to provide my family with the simplest of needs.. but sometimes I feel the weight is too heavy to carry alone.💔

Your support can ease this burden.🙏

It’s National Coming Out Day, so in that spirit here’s a flag I found today that also celebrates the scariest month of the year (and is absolutely made for me).

Coming out can also be a Horror show—especially right now. If you ever need someone to talk to, you always have a friend and ally with me.

Gentle reminder, whenever you see those 30 under 30 lists, or lists of the up and coming, before you feel bad about yourself, look up who their parents are.

if you're not where you want to be as an artist or entertainer and didn't come from money or an industry family try to remember that it was never an even playing field to begin with and you're probably doing great considering

A lot of folks are asking "what can we do?" Find some good where you are & do it. If you feel helpless/paralyzed bc you can't save the whole wide world, then find something you can manage. You won't singlehandedly save the world, accept that, but that doesn't mean the good you can do is meaningless

It's almost that time of year again in the Northeast... Time to put together some warm kits: docs.google.com/document/d/1... - it's a great family activity and you can get others involved too. Last year, I adapted the activity to focus on public libraries but they can be donated anywhere.

This workshop will initiate with people from Mexico, Latin America and Europe to strengthen the ties of stop motion and collaboration and, in exchange, education will be provided for free for one Mexican / Latinamerican student for the first ten years also.

Guillermo del Toro, Netflix, and Gobelins have teamed to open a stop-motion studio in Paris. The endeavor shares a kindred spirit with Mexico's El Taller del Chucho, also co-founded by del Toro, and will honor stop-motion legend Mark Gustafson.

Guillermo del Toro and Netflix have announced plans to form a new stop motion studio that will be both a studio and a school to push the medium forward and will develop plans to make Del Toro's next stop motion project after Pinocchio. I'm very hyped to see what this leads to!

The problem with “virtue signaling” as a rhetorical framework was always that it pressed you not toward deeper and more sincere acts of virtue, but away from goodness as a goal at all.

My gosh. After the US bombed multiple boats in the middle of the ocean, murdering people on grounds that they were allegedly "carrying drugs," the US Attorney General says "Just like we did with cartels, we're going to take the same approach, President Trump, with Antifa."

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

Because fiction and storytelling is a safe, controlled environment that allows us to explore and process our emotions, which can result in powerful catharsis and self reflection.
