Cripes, that's bad! I know our experience both in trying to book online and then trying to book in-store has destroyed much of our confidence in going to Boots for anything medical in future!

We used to leave fallen apples for the wildlife, but it was mainly only the wasps that were interested, so we stopped doing it. Our regular foxes are indifferent to apples - apart from cubs, which play with them the same way they would a ball

Be careful though about stretching medical info given to the pharmacy. Not great if it ends up in your NHS records via that route and gets taken into account in (say) a hospital or A&E situation. Decisions for your treatment could end up being compromised! 😬

BREAKING: President Obama issues a stark warning—authoritarianism isn’t creeping anymore, it’s sprinting.

Around the world, leaders are silencing dissent, controlling media, and twisting justice into a political weapon. His message is clear: democracy won’t survive if we stay silent.

It's not even that easy to get a private vax. We're older but under 75 so we decided we'll pay for ours. Boots website continually crashed when trying to book and they didn't do bookings in person at our HUGE local branch. We found only two other places (pharmacies) that offered it in Brighton/Hove.

I just can't even on this one.

HCPs have NO CHOICE over whether to be exposed to Covid.

Those on lower incomes will struggle to afford the c£100 for private vaccine - and they shouldn't have to do so

We lost over 1,000 workers 2010-1. This is both stupid & insulting.

This is such a clever idea on taking kids to museums/galleries
www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...
Nadia from London has an idea that sounds such fun you'll be booking a day out asap.
"I've always loved museums," she says,
"but they can be overwhelming for children. For decades now, I've done something called 'playing postcards'
We do
the museum backwards, visiting the gift shop first. Each child gets to choose three postcards. Then they take it in turns to find that particular artwork in the museum and give us a little information about the piece from the details on the postcard, or from any gallery plaque. At the end of this treasure-hunt-style activity, we vote for our favourite in the cafe."

I bet it will be delicious! I should think the National Trust gardeners look after their orchards (and apples) really well. We inherited an apple tree when we moved here but unfortunately the variety of apple wasn't great. A neighbour then collared us for them so he could make cider! 😁

That looks excellent! 👍

I foolishly tried to do it in my early days at the other place, mainly so I could start blocking those whose timeline ended up being dodgy. Even with my limited number of followers it became too much. One of the things I like about here tho' is that most people are "sound" and moderation seems good

The detail of these records is significant. 1754 was the year that Lord Hardwicke's Marriage Act came into play, to put a stop (largely) to irregular/clandestine marriages. It's a bit of a gift these 2-plus centuries down the line for people like me who love the resultant wealth of documentation 😊

The marriage banns in particular are fascinating. The vicars' notations are like local newspapers with gossip from all over the towns and villages. Poor Mr Shed has had to listen to me saying stuff like "Oooo, she's called it off!" Or "Her dad has thrown a wobbler in church!" 🤣

Spent this evening looking at a pile of genealogy records Ancestry has uploaded recently. Bishop's Transcripts from Suffolk. These are regular returns of baptisms/marriages/burials made from parishes to the diocese. I've waited years to feast my peepers on these! Have viewed from 1754 to 1775 so far

Edit: Sorry, meant to say the 72,000 that you have following
mspottingshed.bsky.social
I have to ask tho', do you have time to engage with all of the 24,000 you follow or do you find yourself engaging with a much (much) smaller sub-section of that number? And are the 72,000 that you follow people you know or are a number of them "dead wood" that you haven't been able to keep track of?

Same. I was a million miles from New York City, but I bought a suit jacket to try and look like Annie Hall, and I never stopped loving Diane Keaton. Properly sad she's gone ❤️

Oh man, I loved Diane Keaton— Annie Hall had such a huge influence on me as a teen, everything about her style & her energy, the clothes she wore & the way she talked! She just felt like such a model of New York City intellectual life, jittery & adventurous & original

P.S. Altho' for me the follower count wasn't important as I don't need to reach (as many do) a wide sweep of people. But I take heart from the actions of Duncan Jones (film director/Bowie's son) who retained his Twitter profile to prevent squatters taking it over but who's made his SoMe home here ❤️

I just couldn't do it there anymore, David. I loved it there for many years and made some good friends but there came a point when I realised I didn't need that s**t in my life. I came to feel constantly grubby being there, so I had to go. I don't miss it. Life feels much calmer without it

I hear ya! My best "self care" is to sit in front of something like the Sister Boniface Mysteries (years ago it was "Lovejoy" 😁). Not overlong but just enough (and cosy enough) to blow the cobwebs away and put a few smiles on my face 😊
mspottingshed.bsky.social
Hope you enjoy! It's a light bit of fluff, just like Father Brown, but same as Father Brown a joy to watch. And also funny 😁 Some great no-holds-barred and deliberate over-the-top acting involved. It's fun! 😊
