The detail of these records is significant. 1754 was the year that Lord Hardwicke's Marriage Act came into play, to put a stop (largely) to irregular/clandestine marriages. It's a bit of a gift these 2-plus centuries down the line for people like me who love the resultant wealth of documentation 😊

The marriage banns in particular are fascinating. The vicars' notations are like local newspapers with gossip from all over the towns and villages. Poor Mr Shed has had to listen to me saying stuff like "Oooo, she's called it off!" Or "Her dad has thrown a wobbler in church!" 🤣

Spent this evening looking at a pile of genealogy records Ancestry has uploaded recently. Bishop's Transcripts from Suffolk. These are regular returns of baptisms/marriages/burials made from parishes to the diocese. I've waited years to feast my peepers on these! Have viewed from 1754 to 1775 so far

Edit: Sorry, meant to say the 72,000 that you have following
mspottingshed.bsky.social
I have to ask tho', do you have time to engage with all of the 24,000 you follow or do you find yourself engaging with a much (much) smaller sub-section of that number? And are the 72,000 that you follow people you know or are a number of them "dead wood" that you haven't been able to keep track of?

Same. I was a million miles from New York City, but I bought a suit jacket to try and look like Annie Hall, and I never stopped loving Diane Keaton. Properly sad she's gone ❤️

Oh man, I loved Diane Keaton— Annie Hall had such a huge influence on me as a teen, everything about her style & her energy, the clothes she wore & the way she talked! She just felt like such a model of New York City intellectual life, jittery & adventurous & original

P.S. Altho' for me the follower count wasn't important as I don't need to reach (as many do) a wide sweep of people. But I take heart from the actions of Duncan Jones (film director/Bowie's son) who retained his Twitter profile to prevent squatters taking it over but who's made his SoMe home here ❤️

I just couldn't do it there anymore, David. I loved it there for many years and made some good friends but there came a point when I realised I didn't need that s**t in my life. I came to feel constantly grubby being there, so I had to go. I don't miss it. Life feels much calmer without it

I hear ya! My best "self care" is to sit in front of something like the Sister Boniface Mysteries (years ago it was "Lovejoy" 😁). Not overlong but just enough (and cosy enough) to blow the cobwebs away and put a few smiles on my face 😊

Hope you enjoy! It's a light bit of fluff, just like Father Brown, but same as Father Brown a joy to watch. And also funny 😁 Some great no-holds-barred and deliberate over-the-top acting involved. It's fun! 😊

...Also the wardrobe dept has excelled itself. The episode featuring a 1960s fashion model was beautiful. Those wonderful dresses! 🤩

Loving series 2 of Sister Boniface Mysteries on BBC iPlayer. Like Father Brown but with nuns (a forensic nun in particular). I enjoyed series 1 but series 2 has gone up several notches. The episode with a "Carry On" type film set was superb! A thinly-disguised take on Carry On stars, very well done

Must admit, I do like lard! We use it for our roast potatoes. Hasn't done us any harm thus far! I'm partial to suet, too 😁

P.S. We also had a strange girl in our class who when we had to cube up meat for something or other she'd sneak the raw cubes into her mouth and eat them. She said she liked the taste of raw meat better than cooked. Weirdo school! 🤣

That was the one thing I liked in Domestic Science lessons at school - yeast. Not to do anything with it, but just to watch it. I hated every other aspect of those lessons. Feeding herring tails into holes you've just made by scooping out the eyes made me feel proper sick! 😬

Same! It turns into a kind of stringy plasticine when I go near it. Resembling a lab explosion. Or else it turns into a dusty geological formation full of cracks (greyer by the minute) because I've tried to put it right and gone too heavy with the flour shaker 😬

This is probably where I'm going wrong! I'm a bit of an "over perfectionist", so with stuff like decorating, etc., I want every line just so. I'll fiddle about with a tiny artist's brush until I'm happy. Or at least until I'm not in the depths of despond because it's all gone so horribly wrong! 😁

Oh, well done! 👍 I'm rubbish with pastry. I think my hands must be too hot for the handling of it. Over the years I've run my hands under cold taps, plunged them into bowls of icy water, etc., but still I manage to ruin the texture of pastry the second my hands go near it. I do love a pie though 😊

Yes. Even though I know, with stuff cooking, that I'll need to go back in there in a while, I still switch off the light

Yes, looks like we'll have to live with that little blue icon telling us how many messages end up in there! 😁 I'm not going to scan my face or give credit card details to a Games company (which is what Bluesky are using to run the verification thing)!
