As part of my work on everyday experiences of summer heat in Paris on the project Melting Metropolis, I am looking for an illustrator with whom to create a graphic novel bringing together history, climate, and fiction. For more & French, see below ☀️

Why did I do this?

The short answer? Everyone is saying “someone should do something,” and I am someone.

Today, a broad coalition of scientific professional societies who represent over 92,000 scientists are speaking out against the politicization and demonization of Federally funded science and government scientist jobs.

It was an honor to help the Union of Concerned Scientists with this! 🧪🌎

An adorable anecdote as an antidote to the horrible: Ran a race this weekend that had me looping back by people finishing their 1st mile as I was on my 2nd. A kiddo, maybe four years old, EXUBERANTLY says to the person running with him, “I’ve never run a mile before IN MY WHOLE LIFE!!”

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

We made this website to tell our story:

EPA will move to unravel landmark finding that greenhouse gases endanger the public health, which would pave the way to end climate regulations across the economy.

Expect a legal fight on this one.

Upon learning that yesterday would be my last day as a program officer at the National Science Foundation, I shared this parting message with my colleagues. The next few months will be frenetic and stressful for them. Here are some things that you can do to help them with the mission ahead. (1)

And I am a scientist because of the National Science Foundation.

for pity’s sake, I am BEGGING university leaders to stop framing this issue in terms of what this will cost the university. people dont care!

EXPLAIN WHAT THIS WILL COST THE PUBLIC: closed hospitals and clinics, skipped treatments, loss of access to experimental drugs, unemployment, recession
sreenshot from the new york times reporting that Stanford University’s provost is talking about how the loss of funding from national institutes of health funding will cost the university $160 million. that’s not the way to get this changed — the people think “stanford is rich; no big deal.” leaders need to talk about what this will cost the public

I might be able to get behind that ;)
