I am a former nanomaterials researcher turned science and solutions journalist living and working in the US.

I care about: free press, evidence-based science, accurate info, climate and environment, human rights, democracy, healthcare, poop, death, weird science

I cannot stress enough how much these kinds of notes mean to teachers.

Or anyone, really. If someone has made a positive impact on your life, reach out and let them know. It'll make their week.
Sometimes a former student emails and reminds you that you don't suck at your job.

I assume you know the links between EBV and CFS?

As I recall, EB messes around with DNA in cells (like many viruses) and can mess things up, leading to cancer progression

My understanding is this does not mean that if you have EB you will get these cancers—most don’t. It just is another step in a long series of steps that can lead to or increase risks for these cancers.

With the caution that I have no medical training and have only taken cancer biology classes for an engineering degree and like to read medical journals…

EB is linked to several types of cancer including nasopharyngeal cancer, Burkitt lymphoma, certain types of lymphoma, and gastric cancer

if you haven't visited epstein's island

if you aren't getting sued by kids sexually abused while working for your company

if you haven't shot your puppy

if you aren't an alcoholic accused of sexual assault

do you even BELONG in Trump's cabinet?

Oh also lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis

Epstein-Barr is also linked to several types of cancer
If Moderna is no longer bringing vaccine trials for Epstein-Barr virus (good evidence that EB causes Multiple Sclerosis), herpes, and shingles because of Trump appointees, I want prison time for those appointees.

This might be dooming millions to disease they don’t have to experience.

Young darlings, this is what Twitter used to be
This is an accurate endorsement of Bluesky. The core user base are the kids who would whisper "wanna see a weird bug?"
And then proceed to show you the weirdest bug/thing/idea you have ever seen.
Welcome, #NewSkies
Someone told me lately "Bluesky is just like Twitter." I argued that was untrue on the basis that last time I had a Twitter account most times I got a new follower their bio said "single & looking for fun" & here when I get a new follower it tends to say something like "professor of rare moths".

But I also hate that wasted time and $ will prevent us from getting the Next Best Things. In a few years we could be finding a cure for Alzheimer's or eliminating the need for blood banks, or I dunno, eating personalized health skittles. Instead we don't even get clean air and lifesaving injections

I know dozens of repudabe health researchers, scientists, and journalists, all of whom are super upset at what is happening at the federal level because of all the unnecessary pain and suffering and death and pestilence it will cause. Fair.

WHOA!
People talk about working out to get gains.

But to get those gains? The BRAIN must gain first!

When scientists "turned off" a specific set of cells in the ventromedial hypothalamus, mice failed to gain endurance after exercise. www.nationalgeographic.com/health/artic...
Want to get stronger? Your brain may matter more than muscles, new research shows
Studies on the neurons of mice suggest our own human endurance may have more to do with the brain than our physique.

Indeed.

Let's repeal more things! Ummm, no longer are aging and death inevitable. I repeal the human life expectancy! I also repeal mass biodiversity die-off and uh, the theoretical limit of the speed of light.
