3K followers introduction! 🧵

I'm an independent science communicator; I'm a co-founder, creator, trainer, and strategist. I'm a freelancer fortunate enough to make things I like with people I like : )

(there's a lot of evil laughter in this thread, I just realized as I was about to post 😇)

Alt: Napoleon Dynamite from the movie of that name: a man in a white shirt and black shorts standing in front of a brick house awkwardly waving beyond the camera and saying "HEY" without smiling

Important context for that piece about🧪 being prohibited, retroactively, from working with folks from other countries
Wait. Can someone explain how this is different then what we already have to do? If I'm reading it correctly, it's a ban on training/working with people from China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran who are affiliated with their governments, not all students from those countries.

Happy exploding whale day to all who celebrate.
50 years ago, today, a whale exploded on an Oregon beach. 20 years later, before social media or video sharing sights or smartphones, it would become the first viral Internet video.

We sent it to each other in the mail.

The History of Exploding Whales Is the History of the Internet Itself

My first whale video came in the form of a VHS tape mailed to me by a stranger from the internet.

Get offline for a day. Create something.

I'm serious.

You cannot endure our current reality in ANY timeline if you are constantly scraping your raw nerves across the jagged edges of the evil that people do. You need tangible, embodied reminders that we endure through hope and love, not despair.

To my trans and nonbinary friends, I am so sorry that you have to deal with this hate. And I hope to see us reach the other side of it soon. And, we will reach the other side. This is horrifying, but it is ultimately the latest iteration of a time-worn tale. And their time always comes to an end.

SNAP fraud rates are less than 1% and falling every year we have data for

HOWEVER: hundreds of millions is stolen *from* SNAP recipients every year! Because the EBT cards they use aren’t modernized and secure! And the program they used to repay recipients their stolen $ lapsed in Dec 2024!
“some people abuse SNAP” your soul is rotten

Nerding out over this graphic, which I think is so fantastic. Is clear, simple, quick, and it has a call to action at the bottom. It’s also optimized to go with a post like this one: “help us tell the gov…”, instead of “hey FYI we’re doing something”

I’m not surprised, from Oceana 👏
