I was thirty when I first accessed the Internet, forty when I first had a smartphone and Social Media. And both were such incredible discoveries, making life easier, and adding friends, and communities, and insights, and learning, and information, from all over the world...

ARAHIR: I just can't convey the frustration and sorrow that it's been to grow up at first without the internet and then watching it bloom into a useful, fun, connecting force you sometimes spent time on, only for it to degrade into this constant oppressive waste of time where people are constantly pumping out algorithmically designed content for max algorithmic appeal and even the most simple search generates either no results or the an infinite abyss of ai generated slop none of which is useable or correct. We briefly had a Library of Alexandria and then it into a paper shredder so advertisers could sell a random mash of pulp back to us at a premium

Gaie is a terrific writer and I've had the pleasure of working with her several times.

Genre fans - our lovely friend Gaie Sebold deserves a boost right now. May I recommend Babylon Steel, a book where the cover absolutely fails to do justice to a story of found family and dimension hopping gods, all set in a brothel? It's an excellent book.

I love to go to Chat GPT 5 with its alleged “PhD level expertise” and an ask it about my MA thesis work and see that it really cannot do that level of academic work whatever. It can do a SIMULACRUM of that work, which might fool you if you did not have any expertise.
