"Earth itself is a living being; we're privileged to be passengers on it," said author Simon Winchester. "The planet has a self-regulating mechanism, and it will deal with climate change. We may not survive. We may ruin it for ourselves. But Earth will carry on."

Lessons on Climate Futures from Wind’s Tempestuous Past: An Interview with Author Simon Winchester
A newly published history of the wind turns to sea gods and early wind turbines to show how today’s challenges to renewable energy repeat a centuries-old pattern.

Similar story for IEA scenarios (2025 update on this coming soon). The older "current policies" outlooks have simply ended up not coming true. That's because the policies did not remain 'current' - there were 'new policies'.

#1 - deviation from the worst scenarios

If fossil fuel use had grown at the rate it did in the 2000s, global CO2 emissions would be ~5-10 ish gigatonnes (a few percent) higher than they are today

They did not - and they deviated pre-pandemic, too.
Always my fav chart from the GCB, and here's the 2025 update.

It lays out what we've avoided, what we've failed to avoid, and what's at stake if we let the future slip

We are not on a good trajectory, and slipping back into a worse trajectory is always possible. But: we know it bleeds

Self promo is my bane; it makes me feel like an immense tit when I post stuff about my writing (thanks to upbringing - never blow your own horn), but it is increasingly apparent that all it means is that I'm utterly invisible as a writer...

So, anyway.

I have books and stories out there.

Today is the day!

The long-awaited Mennik Thorn prequel novella, The Dead Man, is out now. I promised this to readers quite a long time ago. It works well either as an introduction to the series or for those who've read the other books, so no excuses! Go get it. :)
