A kind reminder that a "politics of you deserved this" (cancer, vaccine-preventable disease, natural disaster, etc) has no place in public health. We can hold bad actors to account without punching down on the groups most harmed by their actions and/or resorting to shame, blame, and stigma.

The numbers of new awards from NIAAA are not changing much by week. Compared to the 22 listed below, there are now 24 new NOAs this fiscal year, adding a P60 and an R21 to that list. NIAAA would need to issue almost 200 new awards by 9/30/25 to match the prior year's total.

For #NIAAA in FY 2025, only 22 total new awards made so far. 5 R43s, 1 R42, 5 R01s, 2 U43s, 1 T32, 4 F31s, 1 F32, and 2 K99s. At this time in FY 2024, there had been 123 new awards made, and 221 by the end of September (including supplements). That is a lot of ground to make up.
