The more we learn about Ray the more we realise he just is not the leader Wellington needs right now.

Hope he settles back down to his councillor role.

Looks like I'm gonna be mayor. 500 special votes to count and I'm expecting them to widen my lead.

After spending 43 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, evidence hidden by the prosecution reversed his conviction. Rather than finally enjoying freedom, ICE abducted him for deportation

Depraved.

Every vote counts whānau
In the Kaipara there are 5 votes in it - on the one hand we could get the racist, climate denier Larsen or on Friday when specials are counted Kaipara might get its champion for the people
Snow Tane.

The now-traditional Sunday afternoon dump of a dodgy policy.
And this one’s a real doozy. Farmers will be dancing now, but they’ll be paying soon enough. The impacts of climate change are coming for them and no amount of denialism will stop that.

Mind blowing.

The Luxon Government has confirmed it will rewrite NZ’s once bipartisan climate change law to dilute methane reduction targets and PERMANENTLY exclude dairy from the Emissions Trading Scheme – a move Greenpeace says amounts to full-blown climate denial.

"It would rely heavily on possible scientific solutions to reduce methane emissions"

This is 100% lobbyist talking point.

NZ needs a Chief Science Officer who will bring so reality to those conversations, rather than relying on the scientific interpretation of Todd McLay and Simon Watts

I'm feeling happy to be a Wellingtonian today. It's a good day.
We galvanised to retain our Maori ward and put a progressive bloc in at WCC. We're back and we're ready to kick this Govt out in 2026.

Climate change was hardly mentioned in the last election cycle. The current government is intent on rolling back commitments.
"If they can’t meet the target, they should admit it and fix the policy - not change the target."
I hope Labour will hold to this at the next election. #nzpol

For Māori electors Horizons rep wasnt needed to be voted on as there was only him standing & there was an explanation of that.

Under that was Māori constituency vote. Some folk I spoke to didn’t see it which is a pity. They felt the votes finished with the rep.

Not conspiracy but bad form design

3) the huge swell in Saturday voters makes me more concerned about incoming disenfranchisement changes to same day enrolments for next year.
4) Selwyn should carry a travel advisory warning from now on, same with Cambridge and Hamilton.
5) the lack of civics education here is really showing.

Ok after an afternoon of results, texts, calls, messages on other apps and emails, I have some thoughts on today’s Local Election results

1) Voter turnout is depressing. 32%ish on average across AoNZ is pathetic.
2) The Māori Wards referendum should never have happened - it was a racebaiting farce…

#nzpol with Andrew Little and the new Labour Councillors, celebrating the victory in Wellington. 31,000 doors knocked on, 8,000 phone calls made. Wellington is in safe hands and has a brighter future.

But not for Horizons Regional Council - over 6000 invalid or blank votes. It’s odd. Wonder what went on there? Maybe needs a closer look?

Self defeating and pitiful.
