Incredibly grateful to Kara Woodbury-Smith for her perceptive and very generous review of my book 'The Making of Constitutional Democracy: From Creation to Application of Law' (which is fully Open Access, link in the skeet below) on Law and Philosophy. 🙏

But I can confidently say that I am a better-informed scholar having read his book. The terrain the book covers, its depth of content, its diachronic sensitivity, its accessibility, and its clarity are to be both praised and replicated. The first chapter in particular is excellent, along with the integration of administrative law. Moreover, given the lengths Sandro has gone to integrate philosophers from the Continent, the book is required reading for monolinguistic English speakers in the philosophy of law, like me. The book reads as though Sandro cares about his reader, not just whether they agree with him – though, of course that is always nice – but as though even if the reader does not end up buying his arguments and conclusions, he cares that you at the very least understand where he is coming from and why this topic, the application and creation of law in constitutional democracies, is worthy of serious consideration. Because of the care with which Sandro created this work, it would be suitable not only for academics working in legal and political philosophy, but for students of the subject as well. image of the cover page of the book the making of constitutional democracy: from creation to application of law by Paolo Sandro (Hart Publishing 2022)

Holy Sh*t, Y'all.

He did it.

Valentin Vacherot, the qualifier ranked #204, defeats Novak Djokovic in straight sets to reach a Masters 1000 final.

The Monagasque, who is coached by his half-brother and could next face his cousin for the title, will climb to at least #58.

Insane.

There’s a comment piece in The Times about sickness benefits mysteriously going up and no mention of Covid, long Covid, the effects of lockdown etc. Boosters help people stay healthy, but now they are only available to the very old or people who can afford them.

It’s dispiriting that this is what getting a COVID vaccination now looks like to this chronic asthmatic.

This strikes me as a pretty major Brexit shift from Starmer.

Perhaps the beginning of 'Brexit is sh1t and has caused real economic damage'.

This is quite frankly terrifying- someone who hears voices, believes in conspiracy theories like chemtrails and pseudomedicine influences decisions of the Florida surgeon general Joseph Ladapo who is himself already a vaccine skeptic ..

At least one senior Labour official seems to finally remember they aren't in Reform.
The changes won't just harm economy and country, they'll destroy families and force more people into becoming undocumented, leading to more deportations. They need scrapping not pausing.

If this were in a sector in which the PM could go and do a photoshoot looking like One Of The People, we’d have had a government intervention by now.

I’m afraid that if you emigrate to Dubai for the tax breaks and 24-hour security, you really should give up your citizenship here for someone who wants it.

The president says there are very few stores left in Portland, Oregon, and the ones that are left are made of plywood.

I know we’re numb to this, but in any other time he’d have been removed by the 25th Amendment by now

Trump: "Portland, I mean -- every time I look at that place it's burning down. There are fires all over the place. When a store -- there are very few of them left -- but when a store owner rebuilds a store they build it out of plywood. They don't put up storefronts anymore. They just put wood up."

I'll say it: as far as a Hollywood production can go, Tucci in Italy is superbly made, plays to an acceptable extent with stereotypes, and has some gems of episodes (Abruzzo above all)

Likewise. What really compounds it imho is the lack of the pediatrician figure here, a specialised doctor who follows kids from 0 to 16 (roughly). One person who gets to know the baby, his or her history, and is able to take medical decisions (antibiotics yes or no) on that basis. It's shocking

Well, one of the two grounds on which the judicial review challenge to the proscription of Palestine action might go ahead is the effect that the ban has on the freedom of speech of people supporting Palestinian people's rights. But that's not the 'free speech' Young seems to care about

This is written like it was just fortuitous that this particular judge was assigned to the Coskun case co-sponsored by Toby's FSU.... Like the judgment was solely at the judge's discretion.

No, the judgment was rooted in English Law with a heavy nod to the ECHR.

Strange, Toby doesn't mention ECHR
