Saying something you didn’t read is “utter nonsense” doesn’t make that true though.

And because *they* won't keep us safe, we are asking you to. And us, I don't just mean the most vulnerable. I mean ALL of us. Yes you too. I don't want you to end up as ill as I am. It really sucks. Infinitely more than wearing masks in healthcare.

And that is why we are shouting. Why we ask people to mask. Because our governments, at least here in the west, have lied to us all, are STILL lying to us all, and refuse to take meaningful steps to prevent harm.

Better yet, far UVC can protect us from the next pandemic. Eradicate flu strains (we nearly did just during lockdown)
And there are clear viral links for many chronic conditions. Alzheimers. Parkinsons. ALS. Cancers. Preventable by cleaning the air!

And the UTTER insanity of all the above is that we have the means to make indoor shared air so safe that nobody needs to mask.
Far UVC can kill 98% of airborne virus, bacteria and even mould in under 15 minutes in an average sized room. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-022-08462-z

things I knew as an adult but didn't (really) know as an adult with a compromised immune system — pneumonia and its related infections really (are) that stubborn and really (are) that serious. I have been living an identical life to an ailing victorian child for the past two weeks.

“I don’t mask and I’m not sick”

“I don’t know anyone with Long Covid”

“I’m not worried I trust my immune system”

“If I get sick I will try harder to get better”

These are all coping mechanisms.

People can’t accept that they will likely become disabled eventually. 🧵

I always tell those people I would love to read research that shows repeat covid infections are fine—and I really mean it! They never provide it though. 😭

I just think that if you are going to state definitively that something is not a risk, then you should be able to readily cite at least ONE study that wasn't later retracted as false. or you should have to read ten of the newest papers on how covid fucks you up. vibes will not save you!!

I think most of us would be overjoyed if there were studies showing that SARS2 is mild and the risks are actually low. None of us like living like this! It's a logistical nightmare trying to safely access healthcare, and the more people you live with, the more challenging it is to avoid infection.

I will say again: It is not anti-vax rhetoric to be open and honest about what the current SARS-CoV2 vaccines actually do, and do not do. I think a major source of vax distrust came from government falsely claiming that it would prevent infection/spread. Then, when breakthrough infections happened..

Feeding into the binary fallacy that death is the only bad outcome from COVID-19 does nothing except normalize & forward the agenda of the anti-vaccine movement.

Average ppl: People who are still masking are living in fear and not following the science.

The science: ~6 million US children have Long Covid and more than 20 million adults. 400+ million cases worldwide, and oh by the way…

Repeat COVID-19 Infections Could Double Your Risk of Long COVID
The latest study shows that getting repeat COVID-19 infections can come at a high health cost.

I’m so sorry that all of us with long COVID won’t just shutup & die faster.
That must be so inconvenient for everyone who dgaf.
I guess we are just down right churlish!

idk man i think immuno-compromised people deserve to be able to go to the doctor and supermarkets and movie theatres and take public transportation without risking getting sicker (forever) but i guess that's not a common position these days.

Before any bs: N95 masks work, but if the seal comes loose for even a moment in a public setting, that’s an exposure risk. That risk is *much* lower if others mask too.

There are also babies and children who can’t mask *or* get vaccinated but hey who gives a shit about them amirite

Given the ease in which CO2 can be measured, its source, and its association with both disease transmission and ventilation, CO2 has become an excellent metric by which to gauge indoor air quality.

A threshold of 800 ppm has been suggested as point in which the air deemed well ventilated.

it is not hard to put on a mask in indoor places where you’re not eating. it does not ruin the experience to cover your face for 20 min at trader joe’s. establishing this as a social norm would prevent so much illness. five years in i do not understand why this breaks so many people’s brains

(and i think it is a demand that stems from fear more than a rational assessment of the threat environment)

Jewish law & Bible scholarship don't think the word in the 10 Commandments for "steal" is about, like, shoplifting.

Look at eg Genesis 40:15, Exodus 21:16 , Deuteronomy 24:7--

the commandment is not to steal people. Don't kidnap.

Though you shouldn't need the Bible to teach you that. #AbolishICE

So now that asshole has promised Argentina 40 billion dollars, instead of just the 20 billion.

And we are ENRAGED about this?

Cut services to Americans to bail out investors in Argentina’s stupid ideas!!

It’s unreal!!

The most powerful force in American politics today is anti-establishment rage at a system that’s rigged against most people.

Democrats should ignore the carping of corporate-backed Wall Street Democrats and embrace Zohran Mamdani and other young progressives as the future of the party.

Excellent piece.

Every time this discourse rolls around they treat those of us that mask like we’re hypochondriacs.

No we’re the ghosts of infections past.

We plead with you so that you can avoid our fate. In return you mock us.

#MECFS #LongCovid
Screenshot from Beyond All Reason by Julia Doubleday reads: But Long COVID can happen to anyone. We keep saying it. Nobody listens. For convenience I continue to separate "those with Long COVID" who must avoid another infection from those
without- who can afford some mystery number of infections. But it's possible your next infection may disable you too. It is for yourself, as much as for others, that COVID is worth avoiding. The
"unreasonable" of wearing a mask indoors does not compare to the "unreasonable" of Long
COVID plus the "unreasonable" of scrambling to avoid another infection while the still-well-enough people sniff that doing anything to mitigate the virus is simply asking too much of them.
