Diane Keaton in her Manhattan apartment with Buster, an Abyssinian, photographed by Jill Krementz in 1977
black & white photograph of young Diane Keaton smiling and standing next to a white refrigerator in a barren-looking kitchen. her cat Buster is crouched on top of the fridge playing with/swatting her hair in the upper right hand corner. she's wearing a long skinny white scarf with a dot-grid pattern, a high-neck white blouse with an ascot/kerchief around the neck, and a black blazer/skirt or blazer dress over what looks like a vest

Re-posting my very long appreciation thread from 7 months ago about the episode of Twin Peaks that Diane Keaton directed.

Short version: I think her work on this episode is very underrated!

February 9, 1991: Diane Keaton's episode of Twin Peaks airs. (S2E15)

It is often cited as one of the worst episodes of the entire series (I disagree -- I think S2E12 is the worst!) but I personally think Keaton's direction is fun.

I am gonna do a thread now of GIFs & clips, all from that episode.

And the big glasses. And brain. And kindness! What struck me on the rewatch was how stern but kind Lora/Yori is with Flynn and Alan during their adventures

let me make more Leto-less TRON movies about HER

I am a nerd about this stuff. Like my queen of STEM and computer lasers, Dr. Lora Baines:

You best start believing in computers, Mr. Leto. You’re in one.

The 4K remaster is STUNNING, by the way, and worth seeing if you’ve never actually experienced the 1982 movie (which is also really important for filmmaking history and VFX!)
TRON (1982) in Dolby Vision at the Academy Museum

I genuinely love the original TRON, but, it has to be said, the success of franchising it was fumbled by the exclusion of Lora/Yori for all future stories

I caught the stunning restoration of TRON (1982) last night at the Academy Museum and haven't stopped thinking how the line "Computers and the programs will start thinking and the people will stop" really hits different in 2025. An AI could absolutely not do this.
A ★★★★ review of Tron (1982)

deleting a lot of posts because I've become a broken record at this point about how problematic representation and career sustainability for women in the direct market is and no amount of posting will accurately capture the depth of struggle it's been lately to stay optimistic

With very few exceptions, the visibility of women comics makers in the direct market on new project announcements remains disappointingly low

Gonna wear a turtleneck today, pour out a giant glass of red wine and find someone who has an island in their kitchen for me to lean over, it's the only fitting tribute.
