Me in 2023: OK! New site new me! I’m under my real name! Gonna clean up my act and just promote my writing. No politics! No cringe! Super professional!

[10/7, the collapse of Vella and the 2024 Election later]

Me in 2025: I regret to inform you that I am back on my bullshit.

I meant spin-off series, but yeah this is such a weird mentality to have. “Yes, I’ve been assisting in raising a child since she was a baby but also I am bad at it! Childfree representation! Go me!”

THE BIT CONTINUES IN THE SEQUEL SERIES!!!
Text highlighted in yellow:

“But you have kids,” Matt pointed out.
“I don’t,” Sophie said quickly. “We have El-Mudad’s girls and Neil’s granddaughter, and we raise them together, but I’m not what you could describe as maternal.”

Look I've been holding off from months asking this on Bluesky because of my pride but I need help.

My car needs brakes, my rent is past due and my step kid needs shoes.

I hate having to ask this

I want more attention for saying this on main, lol.

This trope sucks, BTW. It’s like straight men being into WLW stuff but too homophobic to commit. If Regina George doesn’t start shoving her face in those disgusting, gorgeous breasts she should go home.

Some of my problems with the book definitely came from Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch (the original author — she completed the book after his death), but it really fell back on some ugly sexism toward the Iseult character in the back half of the book.

IDK, I liked REBECCA, but CASTLE DOR really degraded my opinion of her.

Shit like this is why I make all my jokes about not really being a fan of INVINCIBLE (a show I like).

I mean I feel like the cows left the barn on “X-Men in Space!” since at least the Phoenix Saga.

IDK I can get people wanting Spider-Man or Daredevil to be more separate and down to earth but not X-Men.

I haven't gotten anything from stylish occult yet (there just hasn't happened to be anything I've found worth the higher price tags ) but they should sell plush keychains or little figurines of some weird taxidermy, just to bring it full circle. Plus it'd be cute in a more 'subtle fandom' way.

The story of how a holiday originally instituted to celebrate an embattled immigrant community seen as culturally and at times racially distinct from Anglo Protestants, has become associated with the same political coalition that hates immigrants today, is the story of whiteness in America.

Christopher Columbus himself was a monster, but Columbus Day was instituted in 1892 to combat rising anti-immigrant, anti-Catholic bigotry after the lynching of eleven Italian-Americans. The same revanchists defending Columbus Day as "part of our US heritage" in 2025 would have opposed it in 1892.

Namely the Literotica trope where the author puts the heroine/protagonist/lust object through some sort of sexy predicament and then has some mean girl off to the side going, “Oh, look at you! You’re so gross! Everyone hates you and your disgusting, gorgeous breasts! Ew!”

In honor of the unhinged literary opinions post that is already making people annoying, I have to say my least favorite part of this book was when the main love interest’s sister tortures Pamela because it had the energy of a certain type of Literotica trope.

[FRUSTRATED, INCOHERENT SCREAMING]
My hand giving a thumbs down to an Oxford World Classics edition of Samuel Richardson’s PAMELA. Also features my boot ark of Sesame Street’s Grover screaming, “YOU TURNED ANOTHER PAGE!”

And if you were among the communities being actively tortured, the red hot fury you would experience would be utterly undying, but British society was pillared and segregated in such a way that if you didn't, it was extremely easy to ignore.

I remember hearing a remark something to the effect that Thatcher correctly identified that the deindustrialization of Britain was inevitable and probably desirable in the long run, and rather than try to soften the short to medium term pain, actively reveled in making it worse to punish people.

You don't have to judge Columbus by the standards of today. His tenure as governor of Hispaniola was so horrific that he was dragged back to Spain in chains to answer for his many crimes.

Plus he never set foot on any land that would ever be a part of the United States of America.

I think it matters that to whatever degree we want to credit Trump with doing this as-yet-tenuous deal, forget the ten months of ongoing support for genocide, the support for bombing Tehran, etc.; Trump helped accomplish this by telling Palestinians if they didn’t sign on he’d see them all destroyed
davidaustinwalsh.bsky.social
Genuinely don’t think our political discourse is capable of talking about how Donald Trump—*Donald Trump*—just halted an ongoing genocide.

I have strong doubts that the 'ceasefire' will hold and lead to an actual peace deal, but it seems like, maybe, somehow, Trump kinda learned a lesson here...?

The thing about Bari Weiss is "the powerful actually enjoy being mocked because it means they're important" does not apply to her. She is a thin skinned whiner who might actually see your mockery and can't even "not mad/actually laughing" it because it ruins her day, so keep it up
