Two people who thought they'd read all of my books expressed surprise to me upon seeing my second novel 1983 at a recent signing I did: they had no idea it existed. I wish I could say that was unusual...

Hollinhurst Park Early this morning covered in a blanket of fog
A black and white photo of a football field at Hollinhurst Park in Radcliffe covered in a blanket of fog.
The field is lined with trees that are barely visible.
A young boy wearing dark clothes stands alone on the right looking down at the ground.
He was actually with a group from a football club out of sight that were inspecting the pitch.

When you write a book, you actually write several books. There's the one you know you wrote. Then there's the one your readers bring their experiences to. Suddenly your book becomes lots of different books, all equally valid.

But the book someone part-reads or presumes you wrote? That can fuck off.

Early this morning at Elton Reservoir in the fog
Looking down a gravel path that is next to a reservoir on the right and a grassy bank on the left that drops down to fields
The whole view is enveloped in a blanket of fog.
All that can be seen in the path and a lone figure all in black in the distance.

Good morning #BlueSky ☕️ Welcome to Carlow in Ireland with a small poem l wrote in the Alt text. Have a glorious day friends ☺️ #Stunday #EastCoastKin #Photography #Ireland
#ImageAndVerse #PhotographyOfBlueSky #PhotographersOfBlueSky #Rivers #Trees #Boats #NaturePhotography #Summer #AltText #Sunday
After the picture description, l have a poem l have written to capture the feeling of this scene.

Our photograph captures a calm riverside scene in a small town called Carlow not far from me here in Ireland.

The river glimmers in shades of deep blue beneath a clear evening sky. In the center of the image stands a small island overgrown with thick, lush trees and shrubs, their dark green leaves filling the frame.

Around the water’s edge sit quiet homes, a few with faded walls and slate rooftops, some with small boats tied nearby. Wooden docks stretch out from the right, where life rings hang neatly and the water laps gently below.

In the distance, rolling green hills rise softly, dotted with fields and scattered houses, their outlines fading into the cool blue of twilight. The air feels still, peaceful, reflective, and timeless.

And finally, our picture is finished off with a thin white border frame. Now for our Poem

I call this “The Island Between”

Beneath a sky of evening hue,
Where river whispers wander through,
An island sleeps with willow’s grace,
A secret kept in nature’s place.

The hills lean close, the waters sigh,
Soft echoes hum as boats drift by,
And though the town begins to fade,
The island dreams where time is stayed.

No sound of man, no toll of bell,
Just leaf and wind in gentle swell,
Between the banks where worlds divide,
The heart of stillness dares to hide.

Have a great day my friends.

Strolling on the Sand at Sunset

Hello Saturday and hello #BlueSkyArtShow
Today’s theme is #Glow

Have a wonderful weekend all 🧡

#EastCoastKin
A serene sunset over a beach viewed through a balcony railing. The sky glows with warm tones of gold, orange, and deep blue as the sun sets behind the clouds. On the wet sand below, a few small groups of people stroll near the water, their reflections shimmering in the golden light. The waves gently roll in from the horizon, creating a peaceful and contemplative scene.

From my old iPhone 4 - July 2014. One of the wild West Coast beaches is aglow with light. The sun is diffused thru a cloud in the upper right-hand portion of the photo. The sand is near flawless, no footsteps - pristine and smooth. It reflects the glow from above. Horizontally dissecting the middle of the photo is a rocky outcrop that juts out into the Tasman. Fisherman are on the rocks working their craft. A lone seagull is on the sand watching the waves.

'Right This Way...'

A spider basking in the glow of the afternoon sun, a sign to say this is a Public ootpath, a path you get oot of!

Sparty 🕷

#EastCoastKin #Photography #ColorADay #GreenSat #Nature #BlueSkyArtShow #Glow #Spooktober #Art #PhotographersofBluesky #BlueSkyPhotography #BlueskyArt
This photo is a close-up, eye-level shot of a green public footpath sign, almost entirely obscured by a large spider web. The sign is positioned on an angle, with the top left corner closer to the viewer than the bottom right. The vibrant green background of the sign is contrasted by the slightly raised, white letters spelling out "Public" on the first line and "ootpath", the 'F' obscured by the post, on the second. A prominent, brown-and-white orb-weaver spider is positioned in the center of its intricate web, directly in the middle of the letters "ootpath". The spider is likely an European garden spider, also known as a cross orbweaver, which is common in the UK and has a distinctive white cross-like pattern on its abdomen. The spider's legs are spread out, with its two front legs appearing to be holding onto the sign's surface, while the rest are carefully placed on the web's silken threads.
The spider web is a masterpiece of natural architecture, a classic orb web with a strengthening spiral and a series of radial threads that glisten slightly, catching the light. The web is dense and appears to be well-maintained, indicating the spider's readiness to catch its next meal. The background of the image is out of focus, a blur of earthy greens and browns, suggesting a wooded, natural environment typical of a public footpath. This depth of field draws the viewer's attention to the sharp details of the spider and its web, highlighting the unexpected juxtaposition of a man-made sign and a natural predator's carefully constructed trap. The overall lighting is soft, creating a calm and somewhat ethereal mood. The photograph captures a small, yet remarkable, moment of nature thriving in a space designed for human passage.
