This strikes me as a pretty major Brexit shift from Starmer.

Perhaps the beginning of 'Brexit is sh1t and has caused real economic damage'.

Am wondering if all of those suddenly deciding they’re against communities living “parallel lives” might reconsider their support of religious schools? Or indeed private ones?

Remember when Nigel Farage said, 'If we vote to Remain on June 23rd, it will be the end of the steel industry in this country. It's as simple as that.'

Now we all know Brexit’s to blame for the crisis facing UK steel – it’s time for politicians to be honest and reverse it

With British industry faltering, the excuse that the public wants this is risible. Parliament must force Starmer to act, says Guardian columnist Simon Jenkins

🚨Winston Churchill at the Hague Congress in 1948:

"In the centre of our movement stands the idea of a Charter of Human Rights, guarded by freedom and sustained by law".

This meeting was crucial in shaping the ECHR.

Maybe it is time to listen to those who faced down fascism.

We flounced out of the EU on the say-so of politicians who lied to us. And what a total shitshow that’s turned out to be. The polar opposite of what they promised. Now the call to flounce out of the ECHR. By the same people. Telling the same lies. Has the country been kicked in the head by a horse?

‘Polling commissioned by POLITICO shows the government’s agri-food deal agreed in principle with Brussels is popular with Remainers and Leavers alike — even when they're told it means following EU rules.

‘Nearly two-thirds (63 per cent) of voters back the deal…

Even if everything Michelle Mone had done was legal, it would still be sickening that that she chose to exploit the pandemic to make vast profits out of other people's misery, while so many were dying and countless care workers were risking their lives to help others

🧵on Michelle Mone and Covid contracts

1/
Former Tory peer Michelle Mone has called today’s ruling that PPE Medpro must give the taxpayer back £122m for supplying dodgy PPE an ‘establishment cover-up’. Utter nonsense.

Let’s ignore the rhetoric & look at the facts 👇
UK government wins £122m pandemic case against Michelle Mone-linked firm over faulty PPE
Trial heard 25m surgical gowns supplied by PPE Medpro to protect NHS staff were unusable and could ‘seriously harm or kill patients’

Keir Starmer points out that before we left the EU, we had a returns agreement with every country in the EU. Brexit means that “These are Farage boats, in many senses, that are coming across the channel.”

This issue, and Neil Kinnock’s comments, comes up a lot at meetings at the #LabourConference2025 , usually with supportive comments on Neil’s line.

Neil Kinnock points out that Brexit:
- cost UK economy £100bn a year
- reduced tax revenues by £40bn a year
- exited UK from system where asylum seekers are processed by first EU country entered & can be returned there

Says time to put #RejoinEU on the agenda…

Indeed, did Farage “get paid for this, like Nathan Gill, or is he the kind of treasonous fascist tool who would do this for free?”

1/ This speech made by Farage in September 2014, after Russia's first invasion of Ukraine, is a stream of Russian propaganda lies that could have come from Lavrov's mouth.
