Trump's unpopularity only matters if elections occur, and it is kind of up to him to cancel them if he wants, or send ICE after people at the polls. Could we trust an election with ICE standing by?

Ohio National Guard member Sgt. Devon Beck was not amused by this satire. On
September 11, 2025, Mr. O’Hara saw Sgt. Beck, along with several other Guard members, walking
in uniform in the Logan Circle neighborhood, near the intersection of 14th and R Streets NW. Mr.
O’Hara calmly walked behind the Guard members, began playing The Imperial March aloud on
his phone, and started recording. In less than two minutes, Sgt. Beck turned around and threatened
to call D.C. police officers to “handle” Mr. O’Hara if he persisted. Mr. O’Hara continued recording
and playing the music. Sgt. Beck contacted the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). Defendant
MPD Officers Brown, Campbell, Reyes-Benigno, and Lopez Martinez came to the scene and, in
essence, did what Sgt. Beck had threatened, putting Mr. O’Hara in handcuffs and preventing him
from continuing his peaceful protest.

Why Underachievers Dominate Secret Police Organizations: Evidence from Autocratic Argentina

Autocrats depend on a capable secret police. Anecdotal evidence, however, often characterizes agents as surprisingly mediocre in skill and intellect. To explain this puzzle, this article focuses on the career incentives underachieving individuals face in the regular security apparatus. Low-performing officials in hierarchical organizations have little chance of being promoted or filling lucrative positions. To salvage their careers, these officials are willing to undertake burdensome secret police work. Using data on all 4,287 officers who served in autocratic Argentina (1975-83), we study biographic differences between secret police agents and the entire recruitment pool. We find that low-achieving officers were stuck within the regime hierarchy, threatened with discharge, and thus more likely to join the secret police for future benefits. The study demonstrates how state bureaucracies breed mundane career concerns that produce willing enforcers and cement violent regimes. This has implications for the understanding of autocratic consolidation and democratic breakdown.

This was always going to be a challenge for ICE, given that previous hiring drives—when the agency was facing FAR less public anger—had really struggled.

The more ppl keep protesting ICE and making the job socially toxic, the worse the recruiting problem will be for them.

I read an SF story where squirrels switched from nut protein to meat protein, and became night time pack predators like land piranhas. They attacked people and livestock and made it too dangerous to go out at night.

Cops in much of the country consider smelling weed a good reason to get out the gun, and you acting free a reason enough to shoot you. Don't fall for their 'Nice' act. That just proves their rubbish about training is a lie. They know how to behave, but choose not to.

Cops are allowed to shoot you for no reason, or tase you for being old. Troops will do the same, as they did in Iraq and Afghanistan. They mainly fought people unable to fight back.
