you can’t really call this anything other than cowardice
WATCH: @chrislhayes.bsky.social asks Rep. Hakeem Jeffries who he plans to vote for in the NYC mayoral election.
Wanted to purchase a sweater from a favorite Canadian clothing outlet that each year commissions its own knitwear from a Scottish woolen mill. And there it was: on top of the $20 shipping (totally fine, have paid it before), **50 American Dollars** in duties. Thanks, checks and balances!

Also someone needs to explain to, not just Rappoport (who is an idiot), but a lot of other people too, that the premise of democratic socialism is not that everyone is poor but that everyone can have nice things and afford an occasional date night out
i don't get it. omen sushi in nyc is cheaper than nobu in malibu, where you dined last year without your wife

At what point do we acknowledge that Johnson has effectively dissolved Congress?

"Oh so there's no path to redemption?" Sure there is. Most paths to redemption don't run through the U.S. Senate, though. Go, live a good life. Farm oysters. Diminish and go into the East and be an always improving Graham Platner. Do not be a Senator. And remove that fucking tat.

Connery only kind of attempting to speak Russian at the beginning of Hunt for Red October, but with the thickest of Scottish accents: truly a DGAF performance.
Our dog Hennie doesn't like baths or the rain, but will endure either so she can get The Towel afterwards. She loves getting toweled off, like giant full-body scritches.
At our little rally, we were joined by some teenagers (& their mom) - their first protest ever, they said. They were so energized by the crowd & by all the cars honking in support. And it occurred to me: these kids are too young to vote now, but will be voting in 2028. Gave me some legit hope.
Why are you resisting leveraging the power of your keyboard, Ryan?!
The IT Training dept where I work has decided it's Function Key Week & every day on the intranet home page there are handy new tips involving the F keys.

Today's header: "Use Function Keys to leverage the power of your keyboard giving you tools that save time and increase precision."

The lesson we should learn from the UK is that centrism is a poison
I don’t know that I’ve ever seen an election in any country where the two biggest parties appeared to be working this hard in concert to piss off as many voters as possible
(I also want to reiterate the sentiment shared by many people here: Just because he's acting like he's never gonna leave doesn't mean we have to behave as if he's never gonna leave.)
7 million people in the US on Saturday: THIS IS WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE!

Trump, yesterday: Nope, this is what democracy looks like.

Easiest political ad of all time. No words, just demolition footage
I've mentioned it during this competition before, but I saw The Cure on this tour, at Dodger Stadium, with both the Pixies and Cocteau Twins as openers, and as lineups go, it was pretty incredible.

my woke take is that entirely too many people feel entitled to the benefits of a social contract while not feeling bound by the responsibilities of said contract
!!! Truly the most amazing thing I've learned today!
Was waiting for Whitford's character to respond drily to Kate Wyler at any point with, "But you serve at the pleasure of the president!"
Walked into a bar to see if friends were around (they weren't) and was in there just long enough to (1) identify the song playing as The Ocean Blue's 1989 track "Drifting, Falling" and (2) realize how that identification dated the shit out of me.
Went to a wine shop to get some bottles of wine for an afternoon gathering. Asked the folks there for assistance.

Shop person: Is this going to be consumed with food?

Me: Nope, just some day drinking!

Shop person: Ok, so just for vibes.

Folks, I am an old person and have no idea what this means.

If you can’t get the news from the news then they’re not really the news are they
if the president does something so awful it would be indecent to describe and ask about then you very obviously need to describe and ask about it, thats the entire job
He looks like the human embodiment of a Bored Ape
