Just watched The Counselor, and I gotta say, Cormac McCarthy really is the master of nothing happening in two hours despite graphic displays of violence.
A ★★★½ review of The Counselor (2013)
A film packed full of philosophy and scenes of actors talking to one another dramatically about the nature of life while a drug deal they're enabling goes South. Despite the fall of these people from ...

Not sure that, "The Kevin Patullo will continue until morale improves," is a particularly good approach.

Point in fact, not cutting Patullo loose likely puts Sirianni's job at a much higher risk, because the problem now isn't merely the play calling; it's Nick's blindness to how bad it's become.
Nick Sirianni says, “We’re not changing the play caller.”

The offense clicking for an AJ Brown TD, only to have Elliot miss the PAT afterward, is so on the nose it's painful.

Thinking this will ultimately be the epitaph of the 2025-26 Philadelphia Eagles
Only Kevin Patullo makes this feel insurmountable.

I'm just throwing this out there: Only being down 7 with these team stats is an incredible position to be in. The Bears should be leading by 20+.

The level of panicking I am seeing from Eagles fans is inconsistent with a 10-3 deficit.

As someone who played the sport in HS, if you're a young man reading this: Don't give into the peer pressure to be out on that field. Football will wreck your body and brain far too young.

You, the young man reading this, deserve more than a horseshit sport that uses you up.
To a far greater extent than any other pro sports league, the NFL is an injury lottery. Injuries are such a huge and it seems growing part of the sport that teams rise or fall largely on whether their key players happen to remain healthy or not.

Society as a whole declined when it became difficult to find Iron Chef reruns on cable.

(This is related to my theory that the cancellation of Soul Train led to the 2008 Housing Market Collapse and Great Recession.)

My Prediction: Red Bull will find two drivers who dramatically overperform expectations in the RBs.

They will put a driver who dramatically overperformed in 2025 into the 2nd Red Bull seat, and that driver will immediately suck.

F1 media will pretend it's a mystery why the 2nd Red Bull sucks.
Just three more pieces of the jigsaw to slot into place 🧩#F1

I feel this so much as a guy with long hair. I grew out my hair in the first place not because I wanted to present any one way, but because the longer it got, the more I've felt like "me".

Do for yourself the little things that fulfill who you want to be.
1) genuine life changing moment of my early 20s was realizing I actually didn't have to do this at all. tell the youths

2) I feel like there's a class discussion to be had around the stakes of this kind of decision though
So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.

I swear I will stop posting about Gen AI today, but as a final point, if the appeal to a person is that Gen AI gives them a final product that makes them feel like an artist, they do not understand art. Art is *the process* of creation, not the final product. I pity anyone who forgoes that joy.
"My parents couldn't make me a musician but AI can" is about as perfect as can be.

Pre 2000, Virtually every incredibly talented musician in rock & blues has a story of saving for a crappy instrument, learning by sitting in their bedroom playing to records, & playing terrible gigs for no money
All AI music does is devalue the work done by human artists. It’s not accessibility, it’s exploitation. We need real protections for artists against AI!

BTW — even if you had access to this AI startup as a child, you still wouldn’t know how to make music.

A corollary to my last thread: This will never happen because of the cost of upscaling. Most GenAI companies cannot profit without charging users $20-30 per input.

In short, Altman either doesn't understand elastic demand, or he's so autocratic he believes individual spending will be dictated.
November 26, 2025 at 3:46 PM
This is an important lesson in framing, because the bad faith in LLM/Gen AI discourse primarily stems from proponents, who use the language of rape to push the product (Ex: "GenAI is here to stay whether you like it or not"). Yet here, bad faith is presented as something only introduced by critics.
Wow 80% bad-faith responses, and people lecturing the creator of Flask here and the creator of Django/datasette in the comments on why AI is useless for software engineering...
Is this platform still massively against AI or has it moved more towards acceptance?

Casablanca is lightning in a bottle regardless of age. I showed this to a Gen Z audience in 2024, many of whom are deeply skeptical of classic films, And other than The Battle of Algiers, I don't think I've ever engaged in a more enthusiastic post-film discussion.

People who won't raise a hand to help someone out of there's nothing in it for them. This esp pisses me off when it's stuff like a mom needing to get her stroller up a staircase. Can't fathom how people can just walk past that situation and not at least ask, "Would you like a hand?"
12. What is a common behavior you see in public that immediately tells you everything you need to know about a person?

Movies in the 1990s rocked because they were simple: You learned the premise, you were in.

A group of hackers led by Gary Busey attempting to steal state secrets, and the only man who can stop them is Wesley Snipes through the power of skydiving.

Congratulations! You now want to watch Drop Zone.

I have always felt my film analysis working on @filmnerds.bsky.social improved tenfold from the moment I released the notion that I *had* to have definitive rankings. Now I stake my flag in the ground for certain favorites (Apocalypse Now, All That Jazz) but mainly try to judge enjoyment in a vacuum
The movie listed at #1 is so incredibly misplaced that it calls into question the veracity of the entire list. It belongs on the list, yes, but SO MUCH further down. An absolute, credibility-wrecking flub. Boo, @variety.com! Boo!
