Part of me genuinely misses this specific kind of horror movie from the 80s-90s, where everything is shot in vibrant color and the horror is practically humor. Like Maximum Overdrive and Jack Frost. Legendarily trashy.

Win or lose, I have long accepted that the Mariners play an elevated form of the sport of baseball where distinctions like success or failure mean very little. Their existence itself is enlightened by freedom from constraint.

(That said, without a dog in the fight, I am all in on the Mariners)

Wrote a 36-page research paper on the Russo-Finnish War in 16 hours. This included physically having to do the research in that timeframe, including a literal trip to an archive.

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

For sure. It's a joke where the phenomenology behind it is reliant upon regarding the man as a buffoon without reckoning with the fact that he uses his perceived buffoonery to hold himself above reproach through corruption. Silly premise where the comedy falls short when given proper context.

What's funny is that modern American authors probably pick this anxiety up from the work of Gordon Lish, who was notorious for cutting up to half the words in some stories submitted to Esquire. He even did this to Raymond Carver. But few editors have ever gone as far as Lish did, and most never will
