Should probably post a new intro for people!

I'm a freelance writer for sports & film, with a particular focus on film history. Also host a long-form film history podcast Revenge of the Film Nerds with the incomparable @blackkrystel.bsky.social

Huge proponent of media preservation. Here to help.
"Bloody January" feels very apt, yes.

Cowboy Bebop is awesome, because it's 49% this, 49% film noir, and 2% the harrowing tale of why you never leave anything in the fridge too long.
cowboy bebop is so interesting cause certain episodes are basically Japanese animators doing a pastiche of Italians doing a pastiche of Americans doing a pastiche of Japanese samurai movies

Huge loss for baseball. This man turned his direction of baseball games into full-on tributes to classic cinema and television via his eye for live editing, and I'm not exaggerating in the slightest. Hoping he has a bright future ahead.
No longer having @johndemarsico.bsky.social directing Mets games for SNY is a huge loss for baseball fans. He's the best in the business, full stop x.com/JohnDeMarsic...

Look, if ANY former player knows what it's like to manage a large group and get them pointed towards one goal, it's family man Philip Rivers

Man, thank GOD I decided years ago that I was far too old for TikTok and never made an account. This would make Big Brother blush.
TikTok is now under “US” ownership.

Lots of red flags in the terms of service and privacy policy.

Now I love a cheesy action flick as much as the next person, but I feel like F1 sticks out like a sore thumb here imo. Very surprised that slot didn't go to Mickey 17 or K-Pop Demon Hunters.
2026 Oscar Nominations — Best Picture:

• Hamnet
• Frankenstein
• Marty Supreme
• Sentimental Value
• One Battle After Another

Feels like Del Toro deserves a win, but so too does Delroy Lindo, and I think having Penn in here to split the One Battle After Another vote tips it for Lindo at the end of the day.
2026 Oscar Nominations — Best Supporting Actor:

• Stellan Skarsgård, ‘Sentimental Value’
• Jacob Elordi, ‘Frankenstein’
• Benicio Del Toro, ‘One Battle After Another’
• Sean Penn, ‘One Battle After Another’
• Delroy Lindo, ‘Sinners’

Literally just finished doing a lecture series/marathon screening of all 25 James Bond films for our little film society that's grown around @filmnerds.bsky.social, and now I need to check my computer for bugs.
Netflix just added every James Bond film.

They now have 18 pre-1980 English-language films, the most they’ve had since July, 2025 by my math. #FilmSky

On one hand, this would be an absolute disaster.

On the other hand, Nagy reads like a poison pill who would be brought in solely to justify firing Sirianni

The comments really do give away the game that these companies never expect to function in a textbook-definition free market. If a product fails, it's not the fault of the company for selling something no one wants; it's the consumer's fault for failing to sufficiently subsidize them.

The day on BlueSky started with a guy complaining that he's not the main character, only to end with an actual main character emerging via a viral bus kidnapping.

We've made it to the big time, y'all

Incredible thread.

My pet theory is that the bus driver was having a psychotic break a la Clark Griswold in National Lampoon's Vacation when the family finally made it to Walley World and it was closed.
I just woke up from a nap and somehow while I was asleep, everyone on the bus has figured out we are not going to the right place

Honestly like this for the Titans. Salah might not be the guy who leads Tennessee back to a playoff berth, but he's a good HC to start a rebuild by building an actual culture & system on defense. My guess is he winds up with 3-4 years of steadily improving records (if they draft and sign well).
BREAKING: The Tennessee Titans are hiring San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh to be their next head coach, a source tells The Athletic.

To draw an analogy: This would be like getting mad at Leicester City for winning the Premier League in 2016 because none of the Big 6 teams in the EPL bought their players during the January Transfer Window. Asinine for people to complain when the rules are the same for everybody on the portal.
Dawg Indiana was in dogfights with AKRON 2 years ago. If any team gets to spend money it’s Indiana
No it's not when you realize all it took was Mark Cuban buying the entire roster. College football has gone the way of MLB and the Premier League - you can just buy a championship.

That deep ball from Carson Beck is what we millennials call the "Philip Rivers Special". Haven't seen a floated INT like that in a hot minute.

I used to do a stand-up routine about how Martin was the greatest entertainment con man of the 21st Century, because he built a fantasy universe with no clear path towards a resolution and then got someone else to take the flack for finishing it poorly while he cashed checks.

That was 11 years ago.

George R.R. Martin has said that if he never completes Game of Thrones sequel Winds of Winter (or the book after that), there's no plan for anyone else to step in. Instead, his Song of Ice and Fire series simply "won't be finished."
