Black is a Presbyterian pastor who has done anti-poverty work in Chicago since 2020. He grew up in an evangelical household and went to seminary for years, he didn't pay a site online 25 dollars.

My understanding from my nun friends is he's spent most of his time working on running a free pantry.

Nevada Sen. @cortezmasto.senate.gov calls on Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to provide more information about the gigantic solar project in her state that just got axed with zero public explanation (via @lasvegassun.bsky.social)
In a statement sent to the Las Vegas Sun, U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto lambasted the administration’s “lack of transparency” and urged Burgum to provide clarity.

“Solar energy production makes electric bills cheaper, creates good-paying jobs, and drives economic growth,” Cortez Masto said.

precondition to rein in the government says "can't do that. It's gotta be health care all the way."

A good time to remind people that Clinton was gearing up to run in 2020, and the only thing that stopped her was people were so uninterested in seeing her on her tour with Bill that one of the Clintonland people got her to realize she'd lose and it'd be humiliating:

still amazing to me the number of movies, games, etc. which have Venus Flytrap-based creatures in some form compared to the actual native range of Venus Flytrap, which is like, the great untamed jungles of a few wet pine savannas in North Carolina
map illustrating the native range of Venus Flytrap plants, just a little half circle around coastal North and South Carolina in USA

Just an FYI it has been explicitly confirmed that Newsom has bot farms on his payroll astroturfing discussion about him with this exact set of claims “he’s the only one protecting queer people” “the left is to extreme for its own good” “not supporting Newsom is supporting MAGA”
bye-byemars.bsky.social
He's the only one willing to protect them but you're too busy pushing extreme narratives that you'll let MAGA win again.
The left is too extreme for its own good

I keep thinking about how this shutdown feels so different and I think it comes down to this — the administration is already basically ignoring laws and appropriations etc. A shutdown doesn’t feel as consequential when things are already bashed up and the plan is to do that more.

One fed employee told me the internal conversations feel very different from previous shutdowns.

"Every other fed I've talked to agrees how much it sucks to be furloughed, but also that this shutdown needs to continue until the administration starts respecting the rule of law," said a NOAA employee. "Even the conservative Republicans."

just saying: it's possible that "I'm gonna dramatically constrict my state capacity while plotting dramatic imperial expansion, and expanding my set of internal enemies while alienating most of my foreign allies" is the beginning of a world-historical masterstroke. but also possible that it isn't

Very funny seeing people mad at me for endorsing continuing the shut down "You just want chaos"

My man, I've never endorsed a shutdown before this lol.

When the president is doing line item vetos on spending and invading American cities that's a real ass problem.

yeah, pretty sure permitting reform and repealing regulations wouldn’t save a solar farm blocked by a government refusing to issue permits

the final approval for esmeralda 7 was locked and loaded to come in july lol
Ben Schifman of IFP: The largest solar project in North America - 6.2 GW Esmeralda 7 project in NV - has been cancelled.

It takes >2 pages just to list the laws, regulations, & policies it had to comply with to be permitted.

Our permitting system is too complex with *far* too many veto points.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) says he has been denied 4 times to see what is going on inside the Broadview, IL ICE facility:

"Something's going on in there that they don't want us to see. I don't know what it is, but all Americans should be asking the same question."
