Every Shabbat since 10/7/23, our family and many others have lit a third candle praying for the return of the hostages taken that terrible day. Last Friday night while we celebrated a wedding, we lit with the now-fulfilled hope that it finally would be the last Shabbat without their freedom.

The @chicago.suntimes.com photographer who risked their personal health and safety to take this photograph is Anthony Vazquez. Please credit photographers and media outlets. In this age of misinformation, a photo with no context could be anything at all.

NEW:

A dramatic voiceover video the White House and Donald Trump shared last week claiming to show "chaos" in Chicago is littered with outdated footage from Florida, Texas, South Carolina, Nebraska, California and Arizona, an AFP investigation found.

They are terrified of the No Kings rallies and doing everything they can to discredit them.

If you're on the fence about going, just think of how much it'll piss off these assholes.

Emmer: "We call it the 'Hate America' rally because you'll see the hate for America all over this thing when they show up. The rumor is that they can't end this shutdown because this small but very violent and vocal group is the only one that's happy about this."

Well now, would you look at that?

A massive study of NEARLY 300,000 people in the United States found that receiving an updated 2024-2025 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine REDUCED people’s risk of severe disease AND death in ALL age groups, REGARDLESS of immunity from prior infection or vaccination.

I think it's important to give money to author support orgs that actively defend our interests. It's just solidarity.

But solidarity is a contract. Author support orgs that violate solidarity by promoting AI do not get my money.

So... IN A WAY, I guess AI is saving me money this year. Depressing.

🧵 UPDATE FOR MY BIRTHDAY:
Hi, so AI killed my career(s) and I'm still barely holding on. Some people tried to get me to start a fundraiser, but that felt weird, so I thought maybe if I was contributing something? So I started making shirts. Can you share this and maybe think about grabbing some?

"A little bit of something beats a lot of nothing. Break the largest of difficult tasks into the smallest of steps and it can be done." ~Dan Millman

I noticed this quote today in the office of a principal who passed away recently, someone who was inspiring in her care for #STL kids. 💙

Good advice.

Over two years after 10/7, the remaining living hostages are finally home. This moment cannot undo the pain of their captivity or the loss and trauma so many have endured — but it is a moment of profound relief, reunion, and hope.
JCPA graphic with yellow ribbon background and this statement: “Over two years after October 7th, the remaining living hostages are finally home.

This moment cannot undo the pain of their captivity or the loss and trauma so many have endured — but it is a moment of profound relief, reunion, and hope.

We hold the hostages and their families in our hearts as they begin to heal. And we remain steadfast in our commitment to a future rooted in safety, dignity, and peace for both Israelis and Palestinians.”

Saluting the brave women who traveled the Sante Fe Trail
Historic marker at Maxwell, New Mexico rest stop

WOMEN OF THE SANTA FE TRAIL
The Women of the Santa Fe Trail endured untold hardships traveling across the Great Plains. In 1829, six Hispanic women were the first known female travelers going east on the trail. In 1832, Mary Donoho was the first woman whose name was recorded to travel west along the trail. Susan Shelby Magoffin and Marion Sloan followed and both wrote about their experiences.
