A former enemy approaches, with stitches on their face still visible from a recent leopard bite.

"So. You know now, that they were lying to you about the leopards. I want you to consider, what else could they have been lying about?"

I'd set up a trust fund dedicated to throwing cream pies at JK Rowling's face, as often as possible, for the rest of her life

Oh goodness, that's a really sweet story, I was all teary-eyed by the end 🥲

I mean, it's not like we started a revolution over taxes on a caffeinated drink before...wait, what was that? A Boston what party?

He would know, he's speaking from experience with his own mini-capo regime

Chris Christie: “Thie is no longer, the Department of Justice, is no longer the premier prosecuting office in America. What it is now is a capo regime who goes out and executes hits when directed by the Don to do so. That’s what it is.”

I think it is good to signal virtues to others around you
Norman Rockwell’s Freedom of Speech painting. In it, a clean shaven, dark-haired, white man in a blue gingham shirt and leather jacket with the two bottom snaps fastened is standing and talking at a town hall meeting. He has the town hall meeting minutes rolled up and in his left jacket pocket. There are several other people, all white, sitting around him, many of whom are looking at him as he’s speaking.

The painting has since become a meme to announce an opinion that is being presented as ironically controversial due to the context around it.

POV: you've committed the perfect crime, disposed of the weapon and and hidden the body, but now you arrive back at your pasture to find you are well and truly fucked.
Detective Columbo stands behind a wooden table with two irregular cow tools in it. He holds a 3rd cow tool and looks at it with his other hand scratching his head. He says, "Gee these tools are really something, aren't they? Y'know, my wife, she says they lack sophistication. But I just think that adds to the charm... Say... Don't they usually come in a set of four?"

Caption below the panel reads, "Cowlumbo tools."

True, you have to look outside the US if you want to see improvements in healthcare having an unambiguously positive impact.

Housing is an issue with infrastructure and governance, we can't invent our way out of that one
squares4444.bsky.social
I should add, it's not just the phones themselves, but wireless networks, fiber optics, Wi-Fi, satellite, etc. That infrastructure has a very global reach now.

I'll grant that I'm biased, I work in telecom

Smart phones, and the widespread Internet access and computing power that comes with them.

Not to be confused with social media, which tbh seems like the main issue people have with smartphones.

There isn’t a national antifa organization, but if you wanted to create one, sending your Sardaukar to subdue all the major cities would be a great way to kick it off.

This sounds like something that got the wrong side declared heretics about 1500 years ago

But "just make the good uses of crypto legal with regular money" is clearly no longer an option

I was a crypto hater for a long time.

And I mean I will always hate on proof-of-work, apart from the absurd climate impact we shouldn't still live in a world where malware crypto miners are even possible. Not to mention the countless scams in the crypto space

Couple this with struggling to reconcile "No, the computer is not alive" and "Yes, it's a red flag when someone gleefully treats something they interact with cruelly"
katie.bzky.team
fascinating that "no, the computer is not alive" and "yes, it's questionable to gleefully say anti-computer phrases modeled after racial slurs" are two thoughts people are struggling to reconcile

And when Newsom starts *agreeing* with these pundits on their favorite social issue, in the context of other people blaming Dems' losses in 2024 on their tepid support for trans rights...

I can't help but wonder where the red line actually is
squares4444.bsky.social
This gets back to the Klein/Coates interview, I think.

It might be useful for someone to go debate right-wing pundits on the topics of bigotry, equal rights, etc.

But this is definitely *not* the role of the Governor of California.
squares4444.bsky.social
I hope you're right.

We recently had a lot of discourse on here about the importance of falling in line behind Newsom, despite no presidential election for another 3 years.

It doesn't matter how few transphobic Democrats there are if the rest of the party refuse to oppose them
squares4444.bsky.social
Singal is much, much worse than Wil Stancil
squares4444.bsky.social
Well, a good number of the Dems, at least. Possibly even most.

Either Newsom is an exception, or he has bad principles opposing some of us that are supposedly on the same side as him. And he's not alone.
squares4444.bsky.social
To extend the war metaphor, my concern is less about politicians like Newsom retreating on trans rights, more about them turning their guns on us, figuratively speaking. Not just failing to defend trans rights, but rolling them back like the GOP is.

We haven't seen this in blue states...yet.
