So that’s not at all the purpose of science. Which makes sense considering he knows absolutely nothing about the process of science, no matter how many articles he allegedly reads or that he sometimes has nuanced views, both of which are instead highlighted in this piece
“The entire purpose of science is to search for existential truths,” Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told me. “It’s not subjective. It should be objective. I believe science is a place where you can find unity if you can get a conversation going.” www.theatlantic.com/magazine/202...

I feel like if you write of the news that the largest health insurer is dropping a million of its members in this manner you may be a psychopath, clinically speaking
United Health wants its ‘swagger back’.

How? By dropping a million seniors from Medicare Advantage

Why? America's largest insurer wants to improve its profit margins, medical costs are skyrocketing because the GOP cut Medicaid and ACA subsidies.

Personally I think the decline of religion is less important in one’s source of meaning, which can come from a variety of things, but is more significant for the decline in shared communities that is also exacerbated by the removal of 3rd spaces and the digitization of our social lives
The decline of religion as a source of meaning in people's lives remains underrated as a factor shaping society. The need doesn't go away - they just seek it out elsewhere in (often false) health/wellness beliefs, (often highly polarized/conflictual) politics, etc. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/25/o...

Sure he may be handing out pardons if people give him enough money, shilling his own cryptocurrency, still own his golf courses and hotels he throws events at, and generally enriching himself and everyone in his administration, but that doesn’t mean we can say he’s corrupt.
Does the BBC think it's improper for a speaker to state their opinion that Donald Trump is the most openly corrupt president in American history?

Because I think almost all historians would readily agree that Donald Trump is the most openly corrupt president in American history.
BBC censors a lecture removing author’s remarks on Trump that refer to him a the most openly corrupt American president.

Guys I have terrible news - this post has gone viral on Facebook, promoting hundreds of rage-filled comments from people who have taken it very seriously indeed. And, most annoyingly, the Autism Parents have found it!!
Mary Walker, 9, who has always displayed autistic traits, was miraculously fixed by her parents insisting that she stop it at once.

it is foretold that every 24 years a large company must commit accounting fraud and destroy itself as part of the ritualistic sacrifice given to the gods of capitalism
Fun fact: November 28, 2001:

"ENRON, which had been a component of the S&P; 500, was removed at the end of trading Thursday and replaced by NVIDIA Corp., a Santa Clara, Calif.-based maker of computer-graphics chips."

As much as I want to say eugenics for professional reasons, I really think there needs to be a documentary on the AIDS crisis up to the very recent breakthroughs
I figure Ken Burns has one, maybe two big documentary series in him before he fully retires. What do you think they should be? My votes include Football, Hip-Hop, World War 1, Reconstruction (though Skip Gates did this one well), Iraq/Afghanistan, 19th Century Expansionism.

one of my potentially spicier takes is that an understanding of social psychology is just as important as fundamental analysis in investing. the market isn’t entirely based on vibes but vibes are always part of the market
based off 0 fundamental analysis and only psychological trends, you can tell we are in a bubble because saying so gets called fud

Emmanuel, a 15-year-old with intellectual disabilities, wandered away from his mom’s fruit stand in October.

She reported him missing to Houston police. But instead of reuniting them, the city turned him over to ICE.

“They’re failing all of us,” his mom said.

I mean I agree that the youths are probably somewhat demoralized seeing the geriatrics in Washington cling onto the last little bit of power they have left but this ignores the 30,000 students who just walked out of schools in protest and the fact that boomers are retired and have time to organize
My @nytimes.com op-ed: The Boomers Are Protesting Trump. Where Is Gen Z? www.nytimes.com/2025/11/24/o... (gift link)

The key point: "The absence of young people from conventional protests is both a problem and a warning."

it’s really easy to not be weird if someone declines a drink

and yet..
Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

Wait let’s hear him out on this
“Trump appears to want to revive the raucous comedies and action movies of the late 1980s to late 1990s. He’s passionate, for instance, about the 1988 Jean Claude Van Damme sports flick Bloodsport.”
A person directly familiar with the conversations tells Semafor that Donald Trump has personally pressed Larry Ellison to revive Brett Ratner's "Rush Hour" franchise.

It’s deeply problematic to even consider trying to select for intelligence. It’s also an awful understanding of how genetics works.

“IQ is 50% genetic” shut the fuck up nerd.
They’re doing eugenics right out in the open now, largely because Trump, RFK Jr, Dr Oz and the rest of the fascists have been pushing a eugenicist agenda since they seized control.

It’s white Christian nationalism and it’s dangerous.

Disabled people are not “imperfect”.

We are also not expendable
