In 2004, Parisian police were conducting a training exercise in the french catacombs and found, after moving past a desk and a tape playing audio of snarling dogs, a fully functional movie theater and bar. When they returned 3 days later, the equipment was gone, with a note: “Do not try to find us.”
Members of the force's sports squad, responsible
- among other tasks - for policing the 170 miles of tunnels, caves, galleries and catacombs that underlie large parts of Paris, stumbled on the complex while on a training exercise beneath the Palais de Chaillot, across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower.
After entering the network through a drain next to the Trocadero, the officers came across a tarpaulin marked: Building site, No access.
Behind that, a tunnel held a desk and a closed-circuit TV camera set to automatically record images of anyone passing. The mechanism also triggered a tape of dogs barking, "clearly designed to frighten people off," the spokesman said.
Further along, the tunnel opened into a vast 400 sq metre cave some 18m underground, "like an underground amphitheatre, with terraces cut into the rock and chairs". There the police found a full-sized cinema screen, projection equipment, and tapes of a wide variety of films, including 1950s film noir classics and more recent thrillers. None of the films were banned or even offensive, the spokesman said.
A smaller cave next door had been turned into an informal restaurant and bar. "There were bottles of whisky and other spirits behind a bar, tables and chairs, a pressure-cooker for making couscous," the spokesman said.
"The whole thing ran off a professionally installed electricity system and there were at least three phone lines down there."
Three days later, when the police returned accompanied by experts from the French electricity board to see where the power was coming from, the phone and electricity lines had been cut and a note was lying in the middle of the floor: "Do not," it said, "try to find us."

In 2020, the protesters took Portland; at least that's how the US right saw it. This was an existential wound in their psyche. A city once dominated by the racist right, in a state designed as a white ethnostate, fell. That’s what Trump's assault is about: turning Portland back into Skinhead City.

Trump's attempt to bully and bullshit and bluster troops onto the streets of Portland is as much a counter-revolutionary revenge assault by white supremacist fascism as those previously attempted by Joey Gibson and Patriot Prayer - just with federal government power behind it.

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

Reminder that Oracle bought TikTok and has completely moved Americans into their own highly censored algorithm.

They also removed the ability to tag/search for Portland =)

Oracle is violently evil and extremely pro-genocide (Israel)

Huh: TikTok took down my 8-second video featuring this image of Debbie Brockman — the news producer just detained by Trump’s CBP agents — saying it violates the “joy of TikTok”

I was Pritzker’s biggest fanboy, so I realize it’s hard to accept his betrayal. It was hard for me, but I saw it with my own eyes.
Please stop gaslighting me about Pritzker. You weren’t there. I was. These are Pritzker’s brown shirts, working fist-in-glove with ICE/CBP.

I know that Gazans are celebrating, but I don't trust this at all. This is a deal with the devil if I've ever seen one.

I fully expect Hamas to comply and release the hostages, and for Israel to resume the genocide.
Gaza peace deal reached, hostages to be freed
The announcement comes two years after Oct. 7, with 67,000 Palestinians killed.

the fact that I can't search "portland smoke" and actually see information about the smoke from burning metals that had our air quality in the 130-200 range last night is just really pissing me off
stonerfruit.bsky.social
we're going to see very possible environmental impacts completely buried in the news because shitbags always want to make this place a culture war, and suddenly everyone thinks our antifa is so "portlandia"... because it kind of is...

there was literal toxic smoke blaneting the south side of the city and out to our rural neighbors last night, from a fire at a recycling plant in Vancouver (where all our cops live), but when you search for information about it all you see are jokes about far right fear mongering targeting our city

A fire at a metal shredding plant in Vancouver WA is sending a plume of noxious smoke over NE and SE Portland since before 10pm.
