Why will I not record location despite getting expert advice to help that species?

Cant risk designation. Natura 2000 & now Nature Restoration Law has had a chilling effect on farmer-conservationist cooperation. Some may even remove habitat out of fear. Danger of eco-populism #speirgorm
You want to know part of the reason for Ireland's #biodiversity crisis? Declines are real but take #farmland birds, most farmers won't report successes.

I won't be saying where because of risk of incompetent bureaucracy impeding my work but a at risk bird species has doubled this year on land I
I'm less optimistic than I was 2/3 years ago (and anyone who knows my writing/listened to me talk on the topic knows how cynical I am).
Carbon credits are a disaster waiting to happen to food production.
We rightly have pride in our standards here, the plan is 100% to undermine those with imports

This article is full of digs against horseshoe bats, planners & says “environmental goals have created stasis”. The @dublininquirer.com have already looked into the Collison backed Progress Ireland & identified links with US libertarian & Peter Thiel backed groups. We need independent journalism!
but ones that lock up land from younger more env minded farmers.
The benefit to biodiversity hasn't materialised either as Irish farmland biodiversity doesn't benefit from abandonment.
All this would be fine IF it actually cut emissions but in fact only the Russian invasion & fert price spike did
I say this as a farmer whose cut approx 20% of my GHG while producing not a litre less (in fact slightly more in that period) but the level of support for productive farms to cut GHG just isn't there.
Focus has been populist stuff to decrease production through basically glorified retirement packs
This move from government is utterly insane, good point raised re agri vs energy

Ireland hopes for a discount for missing EU climate goals
Ireland will miss its EU climate targets on agriculture, transport and buildings and likely face financial penalties, but can it secure concessions?

Fionnán Sheahan has suggested that a possible reason HH did so badly is because FG have gone 'too woke'

Aside from the full body cringe of heading a grown man use that word in earnest, it is comforting that Fionnán remains wrong about absolutely everything.

“Any politician who seriously doubts that the current US government could use AWS, Azure, and Google as a political lever is deceiving themselves and the public. … If Europe doesn't finally get moving, the AWS outage was just a mild breeze compared to what the old world can predictably expect.”
Comment on the total outage at AWS: Learned nothing in the last 30 years
After the recent AWS outage, multi-cloud is supposedly the answer. But that's misleading – US dependency is the core problem, argues Martin Loschwitz.

Most people in NI are really not surprised by the Soldier F outcome - but this was no show trial or witch hunt. The judge excoriated the soldiers' conduct, but because of a passing of time caused by extreme state failings, could not convict. That is the scandal. These headlines are grotesque:
Yankification continues on a proposal that salaries should be transparent, on radio a supposed corporate worker claiming he shouldn't know what colleagues earn because it would affect the bosses ability and workers might get lazy #speirgorm

Metsola seems to suggest that, because the European Council has said so, Parliament will have no choice but to push through the omnibus with votes from the far right after Wednesday’s failed vote. This is a worrying stance and a puzzling view of the EP’s relationship with EU leaders

And let us be clear: the judge said the Parachute Regiment murdered people and lied about it, in roughly as many words.

Because of delay and lies, it couldn’t be proven to the criminal standard which individuals murdered; but those troops murdered and lied.

Terrifying. An Associated Press investigation found more than 420 bills attacking longstanding public health protections such as vaccines, milk safety and fluoride have been introduced in statehouses across the US so far this year. Around 30 bills in 12 states have already been enacted or adopted.
Cashless bail?! Seriously?! How are the courts not taking these people seriously!

As we await a verdict in the trial of Soldier F, another reminder that in 2010 the Bloody Sunday inquiry found

- the killings were unjustified
- none of the 14 dead (7 of whom were children) had guns
- no warnings were given
- no soldiers were under threat
- the troops were the first to open fire
I'm sure this will be on our 6-1 news right? #speirgorm
