Isn’t it amazing that China leaves Europe in the dust on EVs yet the EU policy response is to be more lenient on regulating combustion engine car emissions?

Endless coverage of America is the norm in Ireland

Glorification of Irish emigrants to America is also the norm

So why have we heard so little about an Irish citizen in custody for four whole months? Surely this is a diplomatic incident by now?

Wow, this meta analysis was entirely fictional. This thread reveals that it appears to be AI generated bullshit loaded with fake citations.

We are entering a very worrisome situation where AI can generate papers that look real at a glance—this one fooled me too.

Recent trip to Germany kinda shocked me. I'd heard from German friends that their country was stagnating. Talk of fax machines and card refusal.
But it was most obvious at the taxi rank outside the airport.
Trapped between superior engineering & cheaper production Germany is desperate #EU #Speirgorm
Pressure from EU countries, lawmakers and the automotive industry is likely pushing the European Commission to delay the revision of the bloc's ban on diesel and petrol cars by 2035.

So what's the outcome?

2️⃣5️⃣ of the 27 Commissioners have posted in the last week

2️⃣4️⃣ of the 27 generally post every week (Albuquerque has never been on X, Ribera is sporadic, McGrath has somehow stopped)

0️⃣ have stopped as a result of what Twitter has become since the Musk takeover

Most interesting quote in Macron post China interview in Les Echos is on ASML

He proposes "mutual dismantling of our aggressive policies, such as restrictions on the export of semiconductor machinery on European side and... rare earths on Chinese side"
« La Chine vient percuter le coeur du modèle industriel européen », prévient Emmanuel Macron | Les Echos
Dans un entretien accordé aux « Echos », le président de la République hausse le ton vis-à-vis des Chinois qu'il menace de droits de douane. Il invite les entreprises chinoises à investir sur le sol européen, avec des transferts de technologie. Le chef de l'Etat demande aussi un ajustement de la politique monétaire dans la zone euro.

The EU’s €120M fine on Musk’s X is a first step, yet the platform remains a vector for a broader US agenda steering Europe to the right, says Alexandra Geese, a Member of the European Parliament from Germany. Digital oversight must match the scale of the threat to Europe’s sovereignty, Geese argues.

The shift to EVs is happening—fast. Manufacturers can either embrace the long-term transition or chase short-term gains by clinging to petrol and diesel.

China is choosing the long view. Many in Europe aren’t. The risk? Ending up with cars no one wants, lost market share, and shuttered factories.

Our cars and energy is however heavily dependent on importing fossil fuels.
