If a judge started talking about someone's "true marital status" or "true nationality" as distinct from their legal marital or national status, we'd clearly register this not merely as deeply prejudicial but as an obvious attempt to circumvent the plain meaning of the law for ideological purposes.

To put it in blunt terms, judges across multiple cases have essentially taken the line that their strongly held popular prejudices cannot possibly conflict with the law, which must instead be read in their light.

So much gross bigotry, transphobia in this story, it's disgusting. I hate this country so much right now.

This comment from the judge stuck out, not just for being transphobic but i would also argue homophobic as well, suggesting that a man can't be straight if he's attracted to a trans woman.

The judge said Watkin posed a high risk of offending in the same way in the future and, while her actions, at the "heart" of it was Watkin's "frustrations at wanting sexual experiences with heterosexual males" which "by definition" she needed to "deceive to achieve".
