Strongly pro Carrot Cake. This account is mostly paintings, plants, birds & jokes. The U.S. should use the metric system. The UK should drive on the right side of the road. I made a Starter Pack that is just for fun, no politics, no culture wars.

Millions have been allocated to remove asphalt from schoolyards and replace it with green spaces, such as plants and trees, providing much-needed shade for students. One local company, SLA, is also using the funds to train people who have few job prospects, giving them valuable skills.
Providing shade in schoolyards and valuable skills to young job seekers
The founder of this South East L.A. company grew up going to schools with few green spaces and living in neighborhoods with limited job prospects.

The IRS is laying off people during the shutdown, even though it was rehiring staff it previously fired because it was so shorthanded.
This one stands out because firing IRS employees costs the government money, since they bring in about $6-8 for every dollar spent on tax enforcement
IRS Halts Layoff Plans, Begins Rehiring Amid Staffing Shortages
The agency is attempting to rebuild its workforce and restore public confidence.
Treasury Department: Treasury cut 1,446 employees on Friday. Two Internal Revenue Service employees confirmed layoffs were taking place at the tax agency, which has already shed more than 25,000 employees. One employee who was laid off was working Friday and exempt from shutdown furloughs.

narratives are important but never the whole story, and news media aren't exactly separate from the process of their creation.

"Depends on who you ask" framing is one of the most grating tics in modern political journalism. Objective reality exists and your job is to describe it.

A classic case of irresponsible both-sidesism from the NYT. The story is that Trump and MAGA propagandists are lying about Portland to incite a conflict, not that there are different views of the matter.

New — Video shared with me shows ICE officers in DC detaining a man on Friday.

Bystander filming asks man for his name. ICE agent lies and says he’s not allowed to speak to him “by law” and another says “We’ve arrested American citizens for being too close…If he gets any closer, put him in cuffs.”

📽️📅 The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
4 Screenshots from the movie "The Amazing Spider-Man" (2012): First, a dark, intense scene shows a large, reptilian creature crouched in the night. Second, a close-up of a newspaper headline reads "REWARD FOR PROOF!" with a picture of a clawed hand, suggesting mysterious occurrences. Third, a man in a white lab coat, under dim lighting, examines something on a table with focused intensity. Fourth, a tense close-up of a man's face with reptilian skin, in a dimly lit environment, and the subtitle reads, "Just drive."
