After JD Vance disgraced himself, and the British Trumpists did the same. Feels like a good moment to reshare this Substack on how MAGA can create a new progressive British patriotism.

Noam Chomsky’s emails to Jeffrey Epstein display none of the fawning chatter found from, say, Larry Summers. And he does not appear to have been co-opted by whatever access Epstein provided.

What the Noam Chomsky–Jeffrey Epstein E-mails Tell Us
Chomsky has often suffered fools, knaves, and criminals too lightly. Epstein was one of them. But that doesn’t mean Chomsky was part of the “Epstein class.”

It's not that they aren't present - it's not great are not here and genuinely think BS would be better if people were more accommodating to those on the right. But that X is rigged in favour of not just the right but *the far right*. It's not OK for a social media platform to push Nazi race science.
IMO it's hard to combat the dangerousness of the right by participating in a platform where they aren't present.
I think the best way to explain the X vs Bluesky preference is whether a person thinks the left is more annoying than the right is dangerous.

The reason so many Noah Smiths end up on the X side of that equation is that while the left annoys them personally, the right mostly endangers other people.

I don't think this is unsurprising. Because it's not their thing, their skill, so don't see as valuable but needless hard work. Flip it the other way and say you have an artist saying "wow, I wish had a lovely machine that takes care of everything that goes into business and monetising my work".
I have grown to believe that excessive wealth does something to your brain that is analogous to a serious head injury

I don't think it will require Morse to solve this Oxford murder.
Oops I woke him up. Not happy.

On top of the sadness today. It is sort of very sad Mel Brooks has to see this.

There is a point here. Though I'm not sure there is hope for the Tories as are very much being flooded - at least in the areas that matter in terms of policy and intellectual energy - by the same people. And it's probably going to get worse as that's where the money is on the right now.
I've talked before about how UKIP got flooded with US-funded evangelicals who (very seriously) wanted a holy war against Islam and not kidding here, 80% of what Kruger comes out with is exactly their playbook.

That's why it's good that he defected to Reform. It means there's hope for the Tories.
Reform MP Danny Kruger on pornstar/provocateur Bonnie Blue announcing her support for the party: "We’ll take votes from wherever we can get them, we want all the support we can get. Quite like Bonnie Blue."

Says party isn't "going to be fussy, we're not going to be judgemental" about Reform voters

There is also at play a reluctance to face the possibility that prominent Right wing journalists that Labour figures might have once bantered with in a spirit of gentlemanly rivalry are now going through a process of far right radicalisation
Honestly impressed at Starmer and Nandy's commitment to not doing their job. This guy is literally talking about his wife, his children, her, and her children, and they do nothing!
CT explains why he thinks Shabana Mahmood is neither English, nor British, to which Cole does not respond to at all.

Cole: asks how many generations? Is it a race thing?
CT: Not race as Albanians don't count either. It is ancestry.
It is infinite generations, if you don't have the ancestry.

There were 2 Labour Cabinet Ministers last week on TalkTV Harry Cole slot which plans to invite back an overt racist who'd ban the Home Secretary, Lord Chancellor, Leader of the Opposition & Deputy Speaker from parliament & all blacks, Asians, Jews, Hindus, Muslims & Sikhs from the civil service!

Tomlinson makes clear that "ban Jews from the civil service and parliament" is his position.

It is a position that Harry Cole of the Sun & TalkTV will now promote as a legitimate contribution (albeit when emphasise banning Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, blacks and Asians + incidentally the Jews too)

Have oft thought that the thing about the modern radical right is they do not so much have an agreed version of what women's gender role should be so much as they have a consensus that gender roles should be A Thing.

The entire reason Farage's behaviour as a teenager won't go away is that he, as an adult, won't give a straight answer about it.
Reform UK say they will not be commenting any more on the claims of racism against Nigel Farage when he was younger. Danny Kruger, who was hosting a press conference on their proposed changes to the civil service, told me: "We have nothing more to say on those allegations."

Yup. Though one would add there's a weird thing whereby politicians treat it like something they can't do anything about or set the tone for. There are laws that say if you hurl racist abuse or harass someone in the street, you may well be arrested. So even racists generally don't. Online ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
"Nobody is required to listen to anyone, for any reason. If someone started yelling opinions at you in the street or at a party, you’d walk away."

This is old but feels relevant again: people can use social media in whatever way they like, stop complaining that they're doing it wrong.
In defence of echo chambers
This week, some common terms from naval language, and a map of left behind places. But first, what’s the problem with filter bubbles anyway?

This is kind of why Wake Up Dead Man is good because it is very much about how certain people bluster about faith but is very much a part of their worldly desire for power over a deeper faith that requires you to do things that aren't to your benefit.
Quite a position to argues that the wokes are destroying a civilisation built on Christian faith but gang bangs are fine actually.

Yeah. This is not OK. We simply have to demand a line is drawn, especially as the one thing these shows need is content. If the government and anyone who objects simply says "nope, stew in your own racist juice" they will have a big problem".
