After JD Vance disgraced himself, and the British Trumpists did the same. Feels like a good moment to reshare this Substack on how MAGA can create a new progressive British patriotism.

Have genuinely caught the F1 bug back this year. Mainly as McLaren and Woking. But still maintain the line from my F1:The Movie review that is in effect like being a fan of a spreadsheet.

Woking is genuinely full of McLaren colours. Partly because the company has booked out O'Neill"s but still.

The early Clarkson-May-Hammond ones were/are great but people forget how much it ran on fumes, lazy, bullying jokes and casual racism for the best part of a decade after its peak (probably about 2006/7?). So the changes were a breath of fresh air. For all concerned.

The idea that societies and organisations exist without the infrastructure and support staff that keep things running is not exclusive to techbro libertarians. People forget that buildings have a foundation that stops them sinking into the mud

Apart from anything else, this really embodies the Playmobil approach to workforces that politicians often fall into — it’s all very well and good to laud “frontline” NHS workers but without backroom staff the entire service would actually collapse.
Hey everyone, here's the news, if you aren't a high earner, entrepreneur or a "skilled frontline worker" (whatever the fuck that means) the "Labour" Party says you aren't contributing, you're a taker!

I would simply not call my advice column "The Kid Whisperer".
Dear Kid Whisperer,

I’m reading your book and having a hard time with how this works for seventh-graders. If I use Strategic Noticing as many times as you suggest, 34 times in one of my 50-minute periods, I think it will actually annoy the kids and they’ll turn it into a joke.

Seems like everyone here needs to find a dignified way of saying goodbye rather than souring a relationship with arguably the most important Liverpool player in terms of achievement in 35 years.

This is right in one sense. I do think you need to be less hectoring when unnecessary and "live and let live" to some extent. But it doesn't preclude having strong values and standing up for them either. It is fine to try and be nice but also angry when you think something is badly wrong.

A good point is that the 'Ripper' stuff is bad because so often is taken out of context due to its notoriety. The late Victorian world is fascinating as is in some ways like our own but really horrible, deadly and violent. And there's a lot of documentation telling you what it was like for everyone.
The honourable exceptions are @hallierubenhold.bsky.social, for her book focusing on the women who were killed and restoring their humanity and dignity, and Katie, whose guided walk around the landmarks of the victims' lives, brings Hallie's work to life lookup.london/walking-tour...

"It has to be something we have to have a conversation about" is a fantastic way of saying "someone has pointed out very good reasons why this is unworkable but I want to stick with the headline pledge as my fans like it."
Asked if she would want it to be mandatory for all businesses to become workers' cooperatives under her idea of a nationalised economy, Zarah Sultana tells the BBC: "It has to be something that we have a conversation about." But, she adds, this is not Your Party policy (as it has no platform yet).
