If you have not done the work to decolonize your understanding & practice of religion it's hard to have honest convos about it. In my opinion it’s time to retire the Nobel prizes for fields where most of the important discoveries have already been made, like physics, and add prizes for newer fields where substantial innovations occur every year, like speedrunning

I think most of the blame here lies with techbros pushing the evil aspects of AI so much that it becomes hard for a layperson to know the difference.
Those in power built this narrative in purpose, precisely to make us waste time fighting against each other.

I think the argument is about the care surrounding the word... if its edgy white folk basically using it as an n word replacement then thats obv cringe and needs to be called out.

By accepting their framing of the word that is analogous or used similarly to the n word, we lose the power the word can give us, and make that meaning a reality. And it also makes differentiating overt racist usage from the background.

The word falls more in line with stuff like gringo, terf, or cracker. Words that are used to remove symbolic power, to transmit specific messages, and have been called slurs by the target group.
The word is also not equivalent to the n word, even if some racists want to pretend it is.

And I take issue with saying that misunderstanding the term is naive or uninformed, because it once again centers the US experience as the "normal". I know you don't mean it, but I suggest being more aware of this sort of thing, as cultural imperialism is part of what we're fighting against.

And while some have more freedom of choice, so less of an excuse, it is still a vast and diverse group of people who are selling their labour to evil.
So focusing only on the techies, implying some relationship between being interested in tech and being evil, was the problem.

The issue is that what you say about engineers also applies to the health professionals, cooks, cleaners, drivers, publicists, actors, etc etc, anyone who is employed by the shitheads at the top. Its not just the tech workers building fascism.
