Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv will not accept any away fan tickets for their Europa League match at Aston Villa next month, even if local authorities reverse the decision to ban their supporters, they said on Monday.

Looks like Maccabi have saved the UK government from the spectacle of somehow overturning an expert public safety assessment.

Either politicians make public safety at sports stadiums an absolute priority or they do not.

Maccabi Tel Aviv say in a statement that they will "decline any allocation offered on behalf of away fans" for next month's Europa League match against Aston Villa at Villa Park, adding that "the wellbeing and safety of our fans is paramount."

Amazing story in The Times. Reform UK failed to pay VAT to HMRC on its sales (tickets, merchandise). About £400k in all.

Not tax avoidance. Not tax evasion. They just didn't realise when you sell stuff you have to charge VAT.

Higher taxes on gambling probably would cost some jobs. But employment has to be weighed against other social costs.

That's why we don't have brothels and ketamine stores on every high street. It was a terrible mistake to let gambling shops become such big employers.
