I think this from @donmoyn.bsky.social is essential reading for the moment. I’d emphasize that the staggering process he describes doesn’t end with the assault on immigrants. It’s about creating an armed force loyal to nobody but Trump. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/purge-merg...

If you are an American citizen, you should be very concerned about what ICE is doing.

OTOH last time I went to Rebel Rouser, I didn't even make it to the Rock section and I had to tap out cuz I had already selected $100 of records. Like I had to make myself leave.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

there's lots of good ideas on policies that Dems could propose.

Too bad the Congressional Dems are led by two lazy right wingers who hate thinking of or enacting policy, and really only care to make speeches about how cool Israel is, everything else is too hard for them. And too left-wing.
viktorshtrum.bsky.social
most elected Dems (and GOP, of course) would oppose this unfortunately. I'm sure voters would support it across the board (until RW propaganda machine says otherwise then the 30% of idiots would follow them per usual)

I am curious what would happen if Dems ran on a plank of creating an anti-corruption agency with stronger independence than the Fed.

I think it would be highly successful because it would show "we will tie our own hands on this".

One lesson for pro-democracy advocates currently sitting in opposition around the world -- hammer incumbents on corruption and link strengthening liberal democracy (aka accountability) to anti-corruption efforts.
