Here is the most important rule in politics:

If you want a thing just push for the thing.

All the rules about how you are not allowed to do that are made up and designed to prevent you from pushing for the thing.

Most of my understanding of American football was informed by Friday Night Lights so I expect every game to end with a team coming from behind to win via an extremely unlikely heroic play. And from I can gather the Bears keep doing that?

democrats: we don't want to focus on ICE. we'd prefer to work on housing, childcare, food prices.

me: okay. so what's your bold ideas there?

democrats: we didn't say they'd be bold.

look he's seen the polling, this is not a statement about what's effective, it's a statement about what they want to be committed to doing with power should they win. if they run on opposing ICE then they'll have to actually oppose ICE. this is ideology masquerading as electoral strategy
NEW: In this interview, Chuck Schumer describes the "five buckets" Dems think are key to their possibly winning a Senate majority in 2026: housing, "the high price of food [and] food monopolies playing a major role there," electricity, "the high cost of childcare," and health care.
Zero Chucks Left to Give
Chuck Schumer now sees a path back to the majority. Can he manage his way through it?

We'd be in a better world if Paltrow had spent 2008 onwards playing ethically sketchy women in noir movies instead of founding an ethically sketchy company in real life.

I am once again saying: that didn't happen but it would be good if it did

Here's the announcement video:
We’re launching the People’s Cabinet—a group of leaders, experts, and everyday Americans who will cut through Trump’s lies and speak directly to the people.

Stay tuned for more.

Hilariously, they did it. Or at least said they did it. The DNC chair announced the creation of a "people's cabinet" back in early April.

It was essentially never heard from again.
The shadow cabinet idea was a great idea and should have been implemented a year ago. Would have presented an organized, unified response to the chaos, issue by issue, by people with expertise.
Democrats could act like a real opposition party, refusing to validate Trump malfeasance with votes, and setting up a shadow cabinet that regularly communicates how Democrats would be different. But nah.

It’s not only a majority of Democratic voters that hate this approach. US allies see it too.

I’m seeing a lot of people post that Spanberger has ended the ICE contracts.

She may well do so soon (it’s only day 2), and we’ll keep you informed, but that’s not what she did yesterday. The contracts are still in place — she would still have to decide to do that.
Abigail Spanberger did not end Virginia’s 287(g) partnership with ICE yesterday, despite reports to the contrary.

What Spanberger did do is rescind Glenn Youngkin’s order that required the state police + DOC to sign ICE contracts. She terminated the requirement, but not the contracts themselves.

I haven't seen the dunks but I will say that LOCAL CONDITIONS have to determine TACTICS. Folks, whistles are just a tactic and tactics vary according to context. Why waste time on this? If you've organized for 10 minutes, you know this is true. Keep it moving.
People are dunking on the posts from rapid response groups in the DC area about why they don’t use whistles

But those groups are making these kinds of decisions after talking with a whole bunch of people in the targeted communities. They’re not doing it arbitrarily

Every time the Trump regime uses the words "funded protesters" and "outside agitators" news outlets need to cut to this photo from last week.

ICE has invaded these communities. Outside agitators don't show up in their fucking bathrobes.

The so called ‘war on terror’ was actually itself a campaign to terrorize people at home and abroad. ICE was a product of that, which is clarifying.
