Using artificial intelligence in recorded interviews with victims could strengthen rape investigations and spare them unnecessary questions, the chief of Avon and Somerset police has said.
Victims’ accounts were routinely filmed and played to juries as evidencein-chief to reduce their distress, but barristers “feel very unsatisfied with the quality” of police recordings, Sarah Crew said.
The rape charging rate for England and Wales reached 9.3 per cent last year, up by 2.8 percentage points on the previous 12 months. The rape conviction rate was 1.2 percentage points lower in April to June last year compared with the same period in 2024. Avon and Somerset has one of the highest levels for rape reporting.
Crew, 54, said: “AI can make humans more productive. Victim interviews are a good example. [Detectives] could use AI to listen and suggest new questions to ask and help the second interviewer to transcribe. It could lead to better directed investigations and better supported victims because it’s traumatic to relive what has happened.

googling any question results in 90% AI slop which may seem bad to uninformed laymen, but wise investors know this means the tech is VERY popular among rubes and conmen. the two most profitable demographics.
