Tomorrow from Ezra Klein and Matt Yglesias: the Democratic Party will never win elections again unless it stops listening to its far-left extremists like Bill Kristol
For some reason Democratic leaders seem to prefer telling voters what they won’t be able to do, rather than what they’d like to do.

If Hegseth ordered a war crime and lied about it, shouldn’t Ds try for impeachment? Put Rs on the spot. They might get a few defections.

Jeffries says not to expect Democrats to pursue Hegseth impeachment over boat strikes
"Republicans will never allow articles of impeachment to be brought to the floor," he said.

I can’t promise that this is the first time a Canadian publisher of a beloved children’s book series has publicly condemned the bloodthirsty US secretary of defense’s use of its imagery to smirkingly defend heinous war crimes. I mean who can say.

Love how Democrats are judged by the most unhinged posts of random weirdos but Republicans are never called to answer for the actions of their elected representatives.
Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, just introduced a bill to ban Americans from holding dual citizenship. The bill says that to “preserve the integrity of national citizenship, allegiance to the United States must be undivided.” It’s called the Exclusive Citizenship Act.

Everything that's wrong with the US car market in one phrase:

"more customers are gravitating toward less-costly cars such as the pint-size Chevrolet Trax"

pint-size?!? it's 178 inches long, 71.8" wide

A 2017 Honda Fit was 160" long, 67" wide... and it's big!

Shoppers are starting to draw the line on what they will pay for a new car, with some turning to used vehicles, taking on longer car loans and holding out for deals.

Perhaps AIDS activists’ famous slogan, “Silence = Death,” needs an update for this troubling moment.

A shoddy Oklahoma University essay went viral. Cis people think this is about conservatives whining for better grades. Trans people see a planned attack on a trans academic. (Note for free subscriber...

Honestly in my view, the tenured faculty of the department ought to also basically riot for this baseless infringement on academic freedom.

They won't, but they ought to.

On your deathbed, you will probably not be thinking, "at least I totally owned those trolls on social media," and if you are it's unlikely there will be anyone there to hold your hand as you go
The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

The core problem is that in a state, something has to be sovereign - in a democracy, it is the people - and you can design and tinker as much as you like but there is no way to design around a loss of virtue in that sovereign entity.

If the people keep elected maniacs, no guardrails can hold.
one of the things dr schake and i were both wrestling with in this conversation--i think not really conclusively--is how you maintain the norm of civilian supremacy when the civilians are issuing objectively illegal, murderous orders

Northwestern’s leaders will likely try to justify their choice to appease fascist extortion with some BS about needing to help researchers get federal funds that were illegally withheld, so it’s important to note that virtually all of the researchers said not to.
So apparently the administrators at Northwestern have caved to the extortionist demands of the Feds. Faculty voted 595-4 AGAINST this measure.
