Actually circulating videos of Candace Owens that make her seem reasonable because she’s correct on *one* issue is not good work

i am being genuine. i just have to protect myself from folks who push back on ableism in this way bc every single day i have to advocate for myself to folks who are ableist. it’s personal. it’s also systemic. and historical.
whatexactlyisup.bsky.social
okay maybe i can continue to engage bc i might've also been blocked by that person??? i have a b.s. in advertising and spoken closely w uni friends who did pharma advertising. i'd be curious to know what you saw up close that makes you want to defend them?

Reply guy after 10 posts claiming I don't know shit: "What - do you work in pharma advertising or something?"

Me: "Yes, I used to."

Reply guy: <Blocks me>

but it seems you’re more interested in telling someone who is negatively impacted by this system to be quiet instead of grappling with the term “ableism,” so i’m probably not gonna engage w you further on this. 2/2
whatexactlyisup.bsky.social
correct, i did. i also said that upon waking up and could tell the other person was using good faith so i didn’t correct the number. 5% is also an incorrect number. i actually don’t have the 5% symptoms (seizures and liver failure), i get the 30-60% side effects (nausea and migraines). 1/2

oooo someone blocked me
maybe?? even tho i didn’t reply to their post yet? i wish i was surprised but it happens every time i say the word “ableist.” and it’s often from folks who don’t know who Judy Heumann is.
whatexactlyisup.bsky.social
28.7% of folks in the u.s. have a disability. so 95% is incorrect and also proves how pertinent ableism is. the u.s. has a history of eugenics, it’s not a bubble. it’s all of our systems.

am i gonna have to turn off replies?? i think nondisabled people are seeing this and trying to say these ads aren’t ableist bc the side effects are “rare.” (i am genuinely, wholeheartedly about to crash out.)
whatexactlyisup.bsky.social
apologies for being short. what i read into your reply was “these ads aren’t ableist.” and i got defensive bc they absolutely are.
whatexactlyisup.bsky.social
i’m aware of the law and the science. i’m also a chronically ill person who is almost always in that 5%. prescription drug ads don’t need to exist and they definitely don’t need to misrepresent what it’s like living with complex medical conditions

Traveling halfway across the world & packing into a room for a conference panel on the theme of resisting eugenics.

But not wearing a respirator during a surge in the ongoing pandemic.

What a fun way to show how the research & scholars you’re there to ostensibly listen to mean jack shit to you.

masks in healthcare settings makes so much sense, no matter rates of transmission for ANYTHING. you should not be able to catch something at a place you go for your health.

if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the state of the world, an important task can be to trust yourself and find folks that you can trust, too. then do the work of community building. carpool. cook food for each other. be authentic and be present. that’s part of the work rn.

My philosophy major prepared me for my work, but it's my study abroad in the Soviet Union that prepared me for this time of systems breaking down and everyone with influence lying and grifting.

I need to retrieve that mindset or my inability to complete formerly simple tasks will break me.
