Our board member @cmcknichols.bsky.social & AAUP members from OSU & around the state contributed to this @dispatch.com article on the chilling impact of SB1 across Ohio. Between legal mandates & admin overcompliance, we are living the grim reality that thousands protested for over 2 years.
The "chill is real" on #Ohio campuses right now after #SB1 *and with federal attacks on + efforts to micromanage higher education -- cancellations, closures, + chalking and land acknowledgement bans, with some quotes from me as well, great piece in the Dispatch www.dispatch.com/story/news/e...
As SB 1 impacts ripple across Ohio college campuses, students, faculty say 'the chill is real'
Two months into her final fall semester, one OSU senior said the ripple effect of Ohio Senate Bill 1 on campus has been "like a quiet roar."

Welcome to the new Dark Ages. In one self inflicted blow the US is giving up on knowledge generation, technical innovation and medical advances for a generation or more. This is Trump and Vought. This is their doing.

"the results show that most Americans are not buying the White House’s arguments for the compact’s measures, said [Baker]...The compact has been presented as a tool to promote [affordability and merit]...but it’s really about censoring institutions and faculty."

These cases cost money. And we need millions of people moving together to make them stick. If you're faculty in the US, join AAUP and join the fight.

Am reading Judge Young's decision in AAUP v. Rubio - a case about the government's ideological deportation policy against pro-Palestine non-citizens. There are just so many drop dead important lines. Here r a few: "ICE goes masked for a single reason -- to terrorize Americans into quiescence." /n

This document is … insane? Incredible?

In it the USG shakes down a university for $1.17 BILLION “to avoid legal action” and dictates how hiring, promotion, admissions, scholarships, and CURRICULA REVIEW will be conducted. It stipulates how and when students can protest on campus.

It is un-American
