Ok, ok. The shock has settled down. PayGap.ie is now an award winning website, taking home the Social Impact award from the Analytics Institute. I'm thrilled and humbled, we had an amazing night at the gala, and you could have knocked me over with a feather when they said I'd won it.

Lads. LADS. What is happening?!!
zenbuffy.bsky.social
Truly baffling stuff.

Look I can't be certain that a man is responsible for this but, well, I am certain.

Lads standing up in their seat at half time, blocking my view of the minis, have the same energy as those dads who went to do the shopping during COVID just to get out of the house. You're just in the way! Get out of the way!

George was just trying to get to work.

ICE pepper-sprayed him, dragged him from his car, locked him in a detention center, and placed him on suicide watch. He even missed his young daughter’s birthday in the process.

This man is a veteran and American citizen. Don't look away.

"They put me on suicide watch and they put me in the cell, I'm naked, in like a hospital dress and just a concrete bed with like a mattress, like a thin mattress and, they leave the light on 24/7."

Catherine Connolly told me her party piece is "listening".

Wait sorry, I'm getting reports that my notes are wrong on this one...

Committee: "I'm worried that we're running out of ways to ignore women for the Nobel prize"

Wang: "Wait! Have we thought about the machines? What if we give *them* prizes?!"

Committee: "Wang you genius, you've done it. Go home and have your wife make you a sandwich, you deserve it"

Lol the Nobels can't even acknowledge women's contribution to discovery. But sure let's acknowledge The Machines.
Headline from an article in Nature this week that states "Prizes must recognize machine contributions to discovery. The future of science will be written by humans and machines together. Awards should reflect that reality."

There are hundreds of years of history of women’s scientific accomplishments not being recognised or being minimised (“not notable”). It *still* happens. Many female scientists are only acknowledged on Wikipedia thanks to the efforts of, yes, other female scientists, notably physicist Dr Jess Wade.

Oh friends, I have just received a very interesting email about the government pay gap portal and when I tell you I'm going to read them for filth, I worry that you are underestimating me...

To my mind, often times, not voting is akin to voting for the worst-worst, because as I said, they always come out in their droves. Without votes elsewhere to counter them, they prevail.
zenbuffy.bsky.social
I'm team "least-worst" and my experience tracking the Seanad votes is a good reason why. Every time, people despair that Mullen is re-elected, but it's because his voters vote, consistently, reliably, every time. The worst-worst voters always make it to the polling booth.

“Voting isn’t marriage, it’s public transport. You’re not waiting for “the one” who’s absolutely perfect: you’re getting the bus, and if there isn’t one to your destination, you don’t not travel- you take the one going closest.”

November 1st is just a little over 3 weeks away. That would be barely enough time to launch the portal *if* the department were prepared and it really seems like they are not, in any way, prepared. And lord knows I've tried to help, repeatedly...

What a waste.
zenbuffy.bsky.social
If companies chose June 1st as their snapshot date, their report is due on November 1st. That leaves painfully little time for the govt. to get their portal live, communicate to companies, share information about formatting, allow companies to fix their broken/wrong figures, etc.
zenbuffy.bsky.social
And that "a couple of weeks" could very well overrun November 1st, and asked what companies should do. They did not have an answer for me. The best they have is a couple of weeks and it'll be on gov.ie

I've made the argument before that, imo, the portal is already late. This is beyond late.
zenbuffy.bsky.social
Actually gave up and just rang the department of equality again this morning, since they don't bother with emails. Apparently they were told this morning that the government portal will be live "in a couple of weeks". I pointed out that November 1st is the first date of reporting this year...
zenbuffy.bsky.social
Trying to get information from a government department about a thing they explicitly promised which is imminently due (or imo, late already) is like trying to get blood from a stone except the stone is also locked behind a gate that they have the password to and won't reply to your god damn email!

The IDF took 3D animations from the Scottish Maritime Museum, a cyberpunk project and other places to make shit up about Gaza, Lebanon and Iran and these were reproduced in international outlets for the past 2 years.

NEW: Since October 2023, the IDF Spokesperson's Unit has released dozens of 3D animations illustrating alleged Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iranian sites

The style is now unmistakable: satellite zoom-ins, black & white wireframes, and red-textured houses - a new visual language of war

So is it the position of the 'paper of record'?

That the cab-rank rule is bad?

And that Deputy Connolly should have ignored it?

And risked disciplining from Bar Council for breach of professional ethical obligations?
