This week, we discussed a speedy outfielder John Cangelosi! Cangelosi stole 50 as a White Sox rookie, and later played for multiple teams under Jim Leyland, winning a ring for the 1997 Marlins. He had a career .370 OBP, showing a great eye.

We all remember where we were when famous Cubs flamethrower Nolan Ryan faced Will Clark in the 1989 NLCS.
Image shows San Francisco Giants baseball player Will Clark swinging a bat. The text says he hit a home run off of Nolan Ryan in 1989 NLcS and hit .650 winning the NLCS MVP. However, Nolan Ryan did not play in that series.

#Pittsburgh #Pirates SS Al Pedrique & RHP Mike Dunne were selected to the 1987 Topps Major League Rookie All-Star Team by sports writers.

The Pirates & Boston (Ellis Burks & Mike Greenwell) were the only clubs with 2 players on the team.

Born 11/23/1963, today is Dale Sveum's 62nd birthday!
In 1987, with rabbit ball help, Dale hit 25 homers and drove in 95. He helped Team Streak open the 1987 season 13-0. Dale was unable to recreate that 1987 power surge in a 12 year career.

Born November 21, 1960, today is Mark Eichhorn's 65th birthday!
Eichhorn nearly won 1986 AL ERA title with a 1.72 ERA in 157 innings... 5 innings short of qualification. His 1986 is the 3rd best relief WAR season at 7.3!

One of my favorite 4,000 hit guys is Nelson Barrera. If Héctor Espino is the Babe Ruth of Mexico, I think Barrera is the Lou Gehrig. When I presented at SABR, we had him at 4,054 hits and 614 HR. That was missing ALL playoff data.

Updated totals: 4,347 hits and 647 home runs.

We talked about an Atlanta Opening Day legend...Rick "Don't call me Gustav" Mahler! Rick followed his brother Mickey to the Atlanta system as an extra arm. He ended up pitching more than a decade and on opening days went 4-0 with a 0.92 ERA!

This week, the most unlikely jeans models in the 1988 Topps set...it's Rick Cerone! A New Jersey guy, Rick filled the Yankees catcher spot after Thurman Munson's tragic death. In 1980 he was 7th in AL MVP, recorded a song, and modeled jeans!
