Does someone know if there are board game designer in residence programs?

I hope I can someday offer a small nice flat for aspiring game designers to be able to visit and work a few weeks in Vienna and profit from all this city has to offer.

Some of his books are translated into German by the awesome Elfriede Jelinek.

There is a short story about planned obsolescence in one of his books that is so strange. Yet, it makes complete sense.

Thomas Pynchon is so demanding, but also a reminder that ideas know no limits.

Alright, let's do it. Here's a little prospective reader's guide to every Thomas Pynchon novel. We'll take them in order of publication. This might be a long thread. Buckle up! 1/x
Image from the Simpsons of Pynchon with a bag over his head on a cell phone. He's standing in front of a house with a neon sign advertising it as his home.

The robot duck! The whole fascination with electricity and automatons.

I always loved how he bridges absurdity and history/poetry. Sadly my English is way too bad and my knowledge about history and literature also is very limited.

I am not even sure everybody that speaks German can understand it :D

As Bernd das Brot was recently brought to your attention of as a top export of Germany. I would recommend DEICHKIND and their videos if you want more of this special flavour.

Best cover. The art is sooo good. Still have to read the article. But this is a must buy anyway.

I think it can be easier to look at games that are from the same genre and are mid successful to get a rough understanding of what is affordable for a certain price point.

Avoid looking at the Azuls, Splendors or basically any crowdfunded game to understand what is possible.

This can give you a feeling, but there are so many factors at play.

As you see huge price drops between runs of the 1-5k copies.

Also note that Panda is famous for its incredible high production value and service, so there are other factories who are cheaper.

I am very proud. It was an immaculate conception.

Every amount of butter is reasonable!

Damn. I feel with each cover/artwork you show another perspective of how great your art is!

Absolutely agree, but I think with clever framing we can at least avoid certain problems.

I think "Intersectionality" is a good example. It´s a word that is hard to frame in a negative way. Even for people with not the best intentions.
1moretimegames.bsky.social
Trust me I have no intention to cede territory, otherwise I would not have started this whole conversation.

I just want to avoid making mistakes and do something that actually helps the affected groups and is not just an empty signal.
1moretimegames.bsky.social
I do think that a wheelchair user is exposed to a lot more abelism compared to a person with glasses. So I would think that it should be considered with more care. Even if I see what you are indicating.
1moretimegames.bsky.social
You get a word that your team has to guess. You write 3 clues. Based on that your teammates discuss what the word is that they have to guess. There is a little bit more going on, but this isn't important for this discussion.

So 1 word creates 3 clues that then is the base for the discussion.
1moretimegames.bsky.social
Agree. Yet, I believe that a clever selection can reduce this risk. Because the initial "frame" will make it easier or harder to turn the word into a derogatory direction.
1moretimegames.bsky.social
As a final step I totally agree, but I think that it makes sense to try to understand/discuss this first with people inside the hobby who are part of an affected group, as they have more experiences how games, that do or don't take care of including those topics, have worked when put on the table.
1moretimegames.bsky.social
I see exactly that danger, but I don't know if this can be answered by an organisation or even experts.

Bringing whatever topic into a game with a freedom of what you use as tips and how you discuss them, opens it up to be hijacked or turned against the people actually affected by it.
1moretimegames.bsky.social
I am also leaning into including them and risking that assholes will show their beliefs. Yet, I would like to find words that show a nuanced perspective and understanding if possible.

One challenge is that we have easy and hard words. And I would really like to have easy words that show support.
