I'll give you the short version: they sponsored & supported the most influential AIDS denialist group of the 2000's, resulting in national policies in South Africa that caused an estimated 330,000 deaths there.

They have never apologized or acknowledged what they did.

An alleged "news report" supposedly shows a woman calling the police on her Black neighbor, who turned out to be Boston's chief of police. But it's fake. We found signs of AI generation in the footage, narration and script. 👇

Since Louis CK is in the news again, it's worth restating that he never gave an honest accounting of his sexual misconduct—his initial "apology" and his subsequent statements have been contradicted by the testimony of his victims, and contained elisions and gaps intended to exonerate him.

Every political argument now:

Me: What this person is doing is cruel, wasteful and immoral.

Them: You fool, you silly child, don’t you understand this is how the world works and always will?

Me: I don’t believe that and it’s still wrong even if.

Them: I can’t believe you’re so judgmental.

Does Tim Hodgson understand how *spectacularly* shitty he comes off with this? Treating Indigenous leaders as obstacles instead of negotiating partners is so deeply disrespectful 😡
David Cochrane asks about the fact that it would’ve been impossible for the coastal First Nations to travel from their communities to meet the feds on the timeline the govt offered.

“It’s called Zoom,” Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson responds.

Jesus CHRIST.

Guys I’m starting to think Carney’s not only conservative technocrat poisoned but also that he’s bad at politics.
November 27, 2025 at 10:02 PM
Watching people twist themselves in knots trying to describe Carney as a genius on the pipeline thing while ignoring BC and most importantly Indigenous peoples’ rights is a hell of a thing.

Yesterday the CBC ran a story about how violent crime i on the rise on public transit systems. It generally peaked during the depths of the pandemic and then plateaued, but at a higher average rate than before. It’s worth exploring, but the journo only interviewed ppl promoting more law enforcement.

So, Thomas King, eh?

In Uni i took some Native Studies classes. Some of his books, including the Inconvenient Indian, were cornerstones of the curriculum at that time.

It’s a shame that an educator was built on a lie. More importantly, it’s a betrayal to the First Nations on this continent.

Good point about why AI isn't being designed to replace domestic chores or tedious manual labor. The tech billionaires pushing this stuff into art and relationships have servants; they don't need robots.
These guys have never had to do any of that kind of difficult or gross stuff so of course AI is mostly a way to address their own lack of an inner life.

Woah!

Ontario passed a law starting Jan 2026 that it is illegal for companies to ghost you.

If you have interviewed for a job they are legally required to inform you if they hire someone else or close the position.

The law also requires salary transparency on listings and disclosing use of AI

Jason Kenney doing the political news circuit is wild to me. He used to be considered a crackpot and a hard-right politician. Now he’s doing political analysis on CBC Newsworld scrums.

A fun little game is Islets and it’s great if you liked and then gave up on Silksong and want to play something in the same vein that doesn’t make you want to throw your console out the window. It’s hand-drawn and cute and the music is great and the art is beautiful and retro.

The spouse stopped folding and putting away his laundry because the cat decided to take a nap in the open dresser drawer for a couple hours and he didn’t want to disturb a sleeping baby.
November 24, 2025 at 2:08 AM
We got the cat one of those whack-a-mole electronic toys and he loves it. Sometimes he goes crazy, smacking it and sprinting around the apartment. Other times lies next to it like an injured Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park and contemplates its inner workings.

Rediscovering Okonomiaki. It’s a Japanese savoury pancake full of cabbage. You can dress it up with seafood, meats, or other veg, or it eat as-is. Filling and balanced with veg/fibre/eggs, it’s cheap and cheerful and quick.
