Okay, here’s what I hate most about this chapter: the framing. “Isn’t this story of technological progress that I personally don’t like because I don’t like this technology stupid?” Also how out of date a lot of the info is.

Which means if you want to actually learn about AI, you’ll need to take something else because this is demented activism pretending to be scholarship. If you’re in the humanities and curious about AI and not just looking for new ways to complain about it, check out “digital humanities.”
This is not a computer science course.

It’s a humanities course about how to learn and work and thrive in an AI world.

Neither instructor nor students need a technical background. Our instructor guide provides a choice of activities for each lesson that will easily fill an hour-long class.

Lots of the hysteria about AI reminds me of the hysteria about genetically modified foods. It’s an idea that scares lots of people for mostly dumb reasons. I think in the case of GMOs it’s a lot more obvious because that stuff has been extensively studied already. AI hasn’t.

Abraham, a physician who is not board certified in any specialty & has made a career as an extremely partisan politician, is now #2 at CDC.

Despite working full time in political office, he is one of the top prescribers of ivermectin & he oversaw the end of Louisiana’s public vaccination campaigns.
BREAKING via @jeremyfaust.bsky.social: The CDC's internal email server now lists Louisiana physician Ralph Lee Abraham, MD, as the agency's principal deputy director -- "an irresponsible choice," according to one public health expert.
