Open knowledge sharing AND copyright are both under siege. Whether you are for one or the other doesn't matter.

This is a shared issue that's hitting "both sides". They are taking away YOUR choice, replacing it with regurgitation & centralisation while the open internet withers away.

📌 Instance🧵
They are making it impossible to host information online and drying up resources. Stop defending and supporting these malicious entities.

New on FT website:

Downing Street has refused to say whether Sir Keir Starmer knew Palantir was a client of Peter Mandelson’s lobbying firm when they both visited the company in Washington last February — ahead of it winning a £240mn UK government contract.

I continue to be astonished how willing people are to use technology that lacks security by design.

You should check out what @zenitysec.bsky.social labs are doing to expose Openclaw aka Moltbook security issues and how easy it is to use to extract files from the users.

While some are convinced that Moltbook represents an uncontrolled experiment in AI agents talking to each other, a researcher has found an exposure that lets anyone take control of any AI agent on the site. @jasonkoebler.bsky.social on why anyone would even use this.

On a train today, spending some time writing about my own experiences with immigration — I think so few people really get what "illegal alien" really means, because they haven't experienced the process.

I'm college-educated, detail-oriented, fluent in two languages, and never 100% sure if I'm legal

🚨NEW INQUIRY! - Behind the Face of AI🚨

In this short comic, two data workers describe their work impersonating an “AI” chatbot for a major social media platform. Sleepless nights, penalties for sounding “too human,” and emotional drain are just a few of the job hazards.

The connections among Epstein, AI oligarchs, cognitive scientists, eugenicists, misogynists, rapists, and outright fascists are so strong it's stunning that they are not outlined in every account of AI development and deployment.

Thank you for writing about Gladys and all the other history about women who helped build and shape technology. I'd much rather read about them and what they did than the umpteenth vanity piece about the people who usually take credit for their work. ❤️
No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology
She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

Europe already contributes a major share of global open source talent. Members of the European Open Source Academy say fragmentation, not skills, is holding back EU's sovereignty ambitions.

While Europe accounts for a substantial share of global open source developers, its contribution to open source-derived infrastructure remains fragmented.

Food for thought
I may delete this because it’s a bit spicy but it shouldn’t be lost on us that games being turned into TV is essentially harvesting the stories written by those who don’t have union representation or healthcare with WGA by those that do. Our stories are good enough for TV but the writers aren’t?

There were several years when I was one of VERY few journalists seriously covering harassment and abuse issues in comics (and by extension sometimes video games). During that time, I became the Person People Told Things To.
