The impracticality of not having the unique ID-number will definitely make it harder for illegal immigrants living in Norway. But it also makes it harder for employers to rely on underpayed immigrants. The windrush scandal couldn’t have happened in Norway. Even if might have other kinds of problems.

As a Norwegian the second amendment discourse in the US and the anti-ID/digital-ID discourse in the UK is equally baffling. We use the unique ID-number for everything: catch tax cheats, automatic tracking of pensions rights, secure sign-in at the online bank, automatic credit checks, etc.
