One cool thing about having been online a long time is that you see some new discourse pop up and recognize it as old discourse from like five or ten or fifteen years ago. And you can go, nope, did that one already, I'm skipping it this time

The decline of right wing cultural production is just due to the fact that they don’t like culture, they like the signifiers of culture, ie “classic sculpture means white people are better.” They don’t like art at all except for this purpose. They don’t even like the nerd stuff they whine about

Gonna stand in defense of this article from all the tedious discourse that's focusing on the 1970s Gatchaman that didn't fucking predict the future.
This week, Coop and Sylvia take a look at 2013 anime Gatchaman Crowds, and its sequel—which predicted the future we're now living in.

I’m not someone who thinks that AI is a passing fad, but if the next iPhone costs $5000 it’s gonna make the dotcom bubble look small.
The AI bubble might end up bursting backwards, in that it causes a crash for the consumer electronics and automotive industries, which leads into a recession that destroys AI firms ability to get funding needed to scale their data centers.

we’ll see how this plays out I guess but if this is even remotely close to true the treatler caucus is going to be gnawing on the walls

Judging by the replies I think many people are unaware of the progress made since Ozempic. In Retatrutide’s P2, ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of high-dose participants had weight loss greater than a placebo. The effect size was FOUR standard deviations. This is functionally unprecedented in medical research!

good news from NYC, where attempted Adams sabotage of housing policy is falling apart

between this and Zohran getting Hochul on board it seems like he’s actually going to be able to deliver a lot more of his campaign promises than some folks expected

Let me take a look at the ANN comments on the Gatchaman Crowds article, and... Half are complaining there's no discussion of the original 1970s anime. Yup that's the ANN forums.

It's funny that Shimoneta, Gatchaman Crowds insight, and Prison School called the next decade, but they also all aired in the same season. Simultaneously.

Here's mine again. Happy to see the overlap in the articles which means they are both correct and good and perfect.

It always sucks when you get random engagement from something you post here and it's almost certainly a bot miming engagement because you said some keyword.

Here is why Gatchaman Crowds persists: Hajime Ichinose embodies the praxis of antifascism. Why she is the hero our era needs:

Have you ever once seen the New York Times quote Trump like this?
February 16, 2026 at 6:24 PM
Comedy central used to run Saturday night live reruns. I saw a 1991 episode where they were doing a democratic debate about which candidate wanted to lose to the supremely popular George H. W. Bush and the gimmick was everyone was like "not me! Let so and so lose"
February 16, 2026 at 2:26 PM
This took off while I was napping, I guess. I used Umberto Eco, Erich Fromm, Wilhelm Reich and others to construct a grand theory of fascism and figured out how Hajime pokes holes in it.
February 16, 2026 at 2:07 PM
According to Wilhelm Reich's character armor theory of fascism, even Hajime's dancing and spinning around is significant. You may say, but isn't Wilhelm Reich crazy? Yes. But it's interesting Gatchaman Crowds has that in there.

Just found out about a fanfic wherein John Brown is Isekai'd into a standard harem-anime fantasy setting, becomes outraged at all the slavery this entails, so launches a holy war on all these slavers in his newfound environment. My only concern is the story can't possibly be as good as the premise.

Uh,
About one of the Trump accusers in this piece:

“The interview [with the alleged victim and her attorney] was conducted July 24, 2019, and entered into the FBI’s case files on August 9, the day before Epstein was found dead in his jail cell.”
