I was in a meeting in DC once where NGOs were getting lectured by a colonel on how they could be doing better in Afghanistan. One of the NGO leaders said yes we could be doing many things better if we had a budget of $300 million per day.

Charlie Kirk was a religious extremist and an advocate for mass censorship of academics he hated.

But as a political organizer and creator of opportunities for his comrades, there's much that can be learned from what he did. @matthewboedy.bsky.social discusses on the latest Theory of Change

Or more poetically,

When the bible is a bottle
And the hardwood floor is home
When morning comes twice a day or not at all…

In a different political environment the decreases in violent crime would be being celebrated as the biggest public policy success in a generation or more.

San Francisco had the fewest murders in a year since before 1960 last year and murder is down 20% this year. It's almost impressive how divorced from reality these deployment suggestions are. YTD change in SF crime as of Oct 5:

The Virginia Senate just told UVA it’s not getting state funding if it accepts the compact since UVA exists to serve Virginia, its residents, & their interests—not be a tool of the federal govt. This is just peak “everything is performative” more savy than thou-ism.

The entire history of fighting authoritarianism tells us this is *absolutely* doing something.

THIS IS SO HUGE WE NEED THIS SO BADLY

MORE HOUSING, MORE PUBLIC TRANSIT, MORE MIXED ZONING
scottwiener.bsky.social
MAJOR NEWS: @GavinNewsom signed SB 79, my bill allowing more housing near public transit — rail, subway, rapid bus.

It’s a huge step for housing in California. It’ll create more homes, strengthen our transit systems & reduce traffic & carbon emissions.

Thank you, Governor!

Sitting and listening to advice on how to manage teams from an "author and keynote speaker" who doesn't manage teams is always an experience.

New from 404 Media: an internal Meta message we obtained tells employees on its metaverse team that they should be using AI to “go 5x faster”. That's 5 times faster, not 5 percent more.

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

Just this morning I read about a local bike shop that is struggling because of tariffs and a foreign funder of programs for children who will cease giving in the US because of policy uncertainty.

A thousand points of anxiety, stress, and needless suffering.
